Plot

Pollyanna is a missionary twelve-year-old missionary daughter who arrives in the fictional town of Harrington to live with her rich and tight aunt, Polly Harrington, in the 1900s. Pollyanna is a very cheerful, talkative, and very optimistic young man who focuses on the goodness of life and always finds something pleasant, regardless of the situation. Thus, Pollyanna's positive outlook on everything generates herself that makes all sorts of friends in the community, including Mother's mistress and sadness. Snow and the sour priest, Mr. Pendergast.

Aunt Polly's wealth dominated most of the city, and, when most Harringtons wanted the abandoned orphanage to be torn down and rebuilt, Aunt Polly opposed the idea, arguing that her father donated the building to the city, and that was an important landmark. Townspeople opposed it by planning a carnival to raise funds for a new structure. However, because Aunt Polly's control affirms in every aspect of the city, many people feel reluctant to show their support. Aunt Polly became angry about their courage, and she forbade Pollyanna to participate.

A group of residents led by Dr. Edmond Chilton, Aunt Polly's former girlfriend, tried to persuade the city's minister, Pdt. Ford, to publicly express his support for the bazaar by reminding him that "no one has a church." Pdt. Ford was reminded of the truth of the statement that spoke to Pollyanna, who sent a message from Aunt Polly with a recommendation for the content of his sermon.

In church the following Sunday, after getting encouraged to oppose Aunt Polly, Rev. Ford expressed his support for the bazaar and encouraged everyone to attend. On the night of the carnival, Pollyanna was locked in her attic bedroom by Aunt Polly but was "rescued" by her playmate Jimmy Bean, who reminded her that she would lead "America, Beauty" at the highest point of the event. With Jimmy's help, he slips away and has a wonderful time at the carnival.

Upon returning home, she avoided Aunt Polly by climbing a tree into her attic room. When she reaches her bedroom window, she loses her new doll, which falls to the ground. Pollyanna slipped and fell unconscious. Aunt Polly came out with the waitress and only then did she feel guilty for what she had done. Pollyanna knows her legs are paralyzed and she can not walk anymore. As a result, he suffered severe depression and jeopardized his chances of recovery. After learning how his own behavior had isolated him from the city and Pollyanna, Aunt Polly felt extreme guilt. When talking to Dr. Chilton, he admits that his nephew needs his love and that is something he never gave him. Dr. Chilton told Aunt Polly that they could give Pollyanna a love affair and help fix the isolation she did to the townspeople. When the inhabitants of the city learned of Pollyanna's accident, they arrived at Aunt Polly's house with the outpouring of love. Dr. Chilton took the reluctant girl down, where, one by one, the neighbors wanted his health. Pollyanna's spirit gradually returned to the usual hopes and love of life. He also learned that Jimmy had been adopted by Mr. Pendergast and that Nancy and his fiancee were involved. Pollyanna turned her aunt to her. He left Harrington with Aunt Polly and Dr. Chilton for surgery in Baltimore, which will improve his injury.

Production notes

Pollyanna was filmed in Santa Rosa, California with Mableton Mansion at 1015 McDonald Avenue in Santa Rosa as the exterior and yard of Aunt Polly's house. Other California locations include Napa Valley and Petaluma. The interior was filmed at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California. Although the film was filed in California, in a book (written by Eleanor Porter) Harrington was founded in Vermont. However, in the Disney movie, Harrington is located in Maryland because Baltimore is mentioned several times throughout the script. At the end of the film, Aunt Polly and Pollyanna take the train to Baltimore, perhaps to Johns Hopkins Hospital because of the delicacy needed. (John Hopkins opened in 1889 and the story took place in the 1900s.)

Reception

Jerry Griswold of San Diego State University wrote in the New York Times on October 25, 1987, "An attempt was made to awaken Pollyanna in 1960 when Walt Disney released a movie based on a book. Left , Newsweek and other major reviewers agree that such a company is promised to be a disaster - a storyteller presented by master schmaltz; what surprised the critics ) is that it is the best live action movie ever, but few have taken into account the curse of the book's reputation by-then-sachkarin.When the film failed to bring in half of the $ 6 million expected, Disney argued: "I think the picture would be better with different titles. Girls and women go there, but men tend to stay away because it sounds sweet and sticky. ""
