Professional career
Initial career
After ending his amateur career in 2005, Golovkin signed a professional deal with Universum Box-Promotion (UBP) and made his professional debut in May 2006. At the end of 2008, Golovkin's record reached 14-0 (11 KOs) and while he has some victories over A boxer who is considered a legitimate competitor, he is considered one of the best prospects in the world. Golovkin was given 4 relatively easy attacks in 2009. In 2010, Universum began to experience financial problems after being dropped by German television channel ZDF. This caused a number of problems for Golovkin who effectively could not fight in Germany, and contractual disputes between the two parties became complicated.
Golovkin ended his contract with the Universum in January 2010 and stated the following in an interview: "The reason for this decision is that I am always placed behind Felix Sturm and Sebastian Zbik by the Universum. Our demands against Felix Sturm or Sebastian Zbik are always rejected for the it does not make sense The universum has no real plans or concepts for me, they do not even try to bring my career forward. They prefer to try to prevent me from winning titles as long as Sturm and Zbik are champions, moreover, the fight against opponents who famous and interesting is held in the prospect, but nothing happens. This situation is unacceptable It is time to move forward. "
After breaking ties with the Universum, the WBA issued an interim title battle between Golovkin, ranked # 1 at the time, and Milton NÃÆ'úÃÆ' à ± ez. Golovkin beat NÃÆ'úÃÆ' à ± ez, beating him in 58 seconds to become world champion. Golovkin was soon upgraded to WBA champion (Regular). He tried against WBA (Super) champion Felix Sturm and Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam during this time but could not get them into the ring. Oleg Hermann, Golovkin's manager, said: "It is very difficult to find a good opponent, everyone knows that Felix Sturm is afraid of Gennady, Sturm has to get out of boxing and become a marathon runner because he is running fast and old. become champion in athletics. "
Fighting in the United States
Golovkin is determined to be the name of the whole world, dreaming of following in the footsteps of the Brits Klitschko by fighting in Madison Square Garden and the Staples Center. He signed a contract with K2 Promotion and attended a training in Big Bear, California with Abel Sanchez, veteran trainer behind Hall of Famer Terry Norris and many other top talents. Sanchez was astonished and impressed by Golovkin's talent and attitude from their first meeting. Since then, he has worked to add Mexican-style aggression into the Eastern European Golovkin amateur discipline, resulting in a formidable hybrid champion. "I have a blackboard in the gym, and I write the name of Ali, the name Floyd Mayweather and his name," Sanchez said. "I told him, 'You can be there.' He was all shy, but once I felt his hand, and I saw how clever he was in the ring and how he caught... sheesh He would be the most avoided fighter in boxing, or he would get the chance he deserved.
Golovkin is scheduled to make his HBO debut against Dmitry Pirog (20-0, 15 KO) in August 2012. Pirog has vacated his WBO middle-class title against Golovkin. This is because Pirog has been given a mandate against the interim champion Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. A few weeks before the fight, it was announced that Pirog suffered a broken back injury - which would prevent him from fighting on a scheduled date, but Golovkin would still face another opponent on HBO. Some of Pirog's comeback attempts were thwarted by ongoing back problems, which effectively forced his premature retirement.

Although Murray's chin endured a lot of Golovkin's punches in the middle round, he finally dropped again in the 10th round after receiving a lot of punishment. Murray came out for lap 11 and therefore has lasted longer in the ring with Golovkin than any other opponent so far, although Murray came out with a bloodied face and Golovkin kept connected with the shot, the referee stopped the fight as he felt Murray did not fight effectively and had taken too many blows. Golovkin vs. Brook
On July 8, 2016, it was announced that Golovkin would retain his middleweight title against Britain's unbeaten welterweight welterweight champion Kell Brook (36-0, 25 KO). The fight takes place on September 10, 2016, at the O2 Arena in London, England. Brook is scheduled to fight in a unification bout against Jessie Vargas, while there are negotiations for Golovkin to fight Chris Eubank Jr.; However, the negotiations failed and Brook agreed to raise two heavy divisions to challenge Golovkin. This is the defense of world number 7 Golovkin. The fight was aired in the United States on HBO and at the Sky Box Office pay-per-view in the UK.
On September 5, the WBA lifted sanctions for the fight. Although they gave Golovkin a special permit for the fight, they declared that their title would not be at stake. The reason for the withdrawal was because Brook never competed in the middle class division. WBA President Gilberto Mendoza Jr. said: "What I regret most is that there is no boxer at 160 pounds against 'Triple G,' and Brook has to go up two divisions to fight it." The Golovkin camp is said to be disappointed with the decision with promoter Tom Loeffler saying, "somehow the WBA thinks it's too dangerous for the welterweight to move into the middle class to fight the biggest punch in boxing.I think it's a compliment to GGG because they agree [Adrien] Broner moving two divisions [from lightweight to welterweight] to fighting Paulie [Malignaggi in 2013] and Roy Jones moving two divisions [from light heavyweight to heavyweight] to fighting John Ruiz [in 2003] for the WBA title, and Kell Brook is unbeatable and is considered a top pound-for-pon boxer. "
Golovkin came out aggressively, stepping as far as swinging Brook's legs in the first round. He meets with stiff resistance when Brook begins to retaliate, connecting some clean combinations to Golovkin, nothing can frighten him. In the second half, Brook has the greatest success in the fight, but in the process his right eye is broken. Over the next three rounds, Golovkin begins to break Brook. The Englishman showed great courage, determination and chin as he absorbed most of Golovkin's attacks. Despite the fight even in two judge scorecards, and one judge had Brook ahead with one point, the latter corner threw a towel to protect the right eye of their defective fighter, ending the fight in the fifth round with both boxers still standing. According to Compubox statistics, Golovkin landed 133 of 301 blows thrown (44.2%), while Brook landed 85 strokes, after throwing 261 (32.6%). The bout was aired live on HBO in the afternoon and drew an average of 843,000 viewers and reached 907,000 viewers. It was considered by HBO to be a great success for the afternoon show. A rerun is displayed later in the evening as part of a world class flyweight title fight between Roman Gonzalez and Carlos Cuadras. Replay averaged 593,000 viewers.

After the victory over Brook, there was direct talk of the WBA unification fight against 'Regular' champion Daniel Jacobs (32-1, 29 KO), as part of the WBA plan to reduce the number of world titles in each division from three to one. Tim Golovkin talks about the battle of Billy Joe Saunders after the Jacobs fight which will be a middle class unification battle for all belts.
The date that was discussed initially was December 10th, which the Golovkin team postponed to Madison Square Garden. The date originally set by HBO for ÃÆ' lvarez after he defeated Liam Smith, but Canelo insists he will not fight again until 2017 after his right thumb fracture. There is ongoing negotiation between Tom Loeffler and Al Haymon about the split in the wallet, if the fight is made to bag a bid, it will be a 75-25 split with Golovkin taking a lion stake because he became the 'Super' champion. When negotiations continue, Jacobs wants a better split, around 60-40. The WBA provides an extension for the negotiation period on October 7, as both parties initially have until October 10 to come to the arrangement or else the bid bag will mature. There is also a request to change the bag bid distribution to 60-40, which was rejected by the WBA. Golovkin started his training camp for the fight on 17 October.
Loeffler told LA Times on Oct. 18, although the negotiations remain active, the fight will not take place on December 10. New dates for early 2017 need to be set, still see Madison Square Garden to host the fight. Golovkin prides himself on being a very active fighter, and this is the first year since 2012 that he has been in less than three fights. WBA president Gilberto Mendoza confirmed in an email to RingTV that a deal must be made at 5 pm on December 7 or a bid bag will be held on December 19 in Panama. Later in the day, the WBA announced a bag offering would be scheduled with a minimum bid of $ 400,000, with Golovkin receiving 75% and Jacobs 25%. Although the bag offer is announced, Loeffler declares it will negotiate, hoping that a deal will be reached before bag bidding.
On December 17, the provisions were finally approved and officially announced that the fight will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 18, 2017 exclusively on HBO PPV. Golovkin tweeted the announcement through while Jacobs uploaded a short video on social media. At the time of the fight, both fighters have a combination of 35 consecutive knockouts. It was reported that the title IBO Golovkin will not be at stake. The IBO website then confirms that the belt will be at stake. HBO officially announced the fight on December 22, billed as "Middleweight Madness ". Loeffler insists there is no repeat match clause in place.
In the official weighing team, a day before the fight, Golovkin scored a weight of 159.6 lb, while Jacobs weighed 159.8 lb. Jacobs refused to compete for the IBF title by passing an opponent's weight check. Unlike other major sanctions, IBF requires participants in a title fight to submit to a heavy examination in the morning of the fight, as well as official counting on the day before the fight; on morning weight checks, they can weigh no more than 10 pounds (4.5 kg) above the weight limit of the opponent. Jacobs heavily à £ 182 on the night of the fight, 12 more than Golovkin.
In front of the 19,939 bestsellers, the fight lasted 12 full rounds. This is the first time Golovkin has fought 12 rounds in his professional career. Golovkin's ring control, constant forward pressure and effective jab lead to a unanimous 115-112, 115-112, and 114-113 round victory, ending 23 successive knockout matches dating back to November 2008. ESPN has Golovkin winning 115-112. Opening three calm rounds with little action. In the fourth round, Golovkin dropped Jacobs with a short right hand along the rope for a quick strike. Jacobs recovered, but Golovkin controlled most of the center round. Jacobs are effective in switching between orthodox position and the southern foot, but remain behind the legs. Both boxers were warned once in a fight by referee Charlie Fitch for punching a rabbit. According to Compubox's hit stats, Golovkin landed 231 out of 615 strokes (38%) more than Jacobs who landed 175 out of 541 (32%). After the fight, some people doubt Golovkin enough to win. Jacobs thinks he won the battle with two rounds and attributed the defeat to the potential for a big money battle Golovkin vs. Canelo. Jacobs also stated after being beaten, he told Golovkin, "he must kill me." In a post-fight interview, Golovkin said, "I'm a boxer, not a murderer, I respect the game." Prior to revenue sharing, it was reported that Golovkin would earn at least $ 2.5 million compared to Jacobs $ 1.75 million.
On March 24, Tom Loeffler revealed the fight resulted in 170,000 pay-per-view purchases. A rerun is displayed on HBO later in the week and an average of 709,000 viewers. Lance Pugmire from LA Times reported the live gate was $ 3.7 million, a huge increase from Golovkin vs. Lemieux PPV which earned $ 2 million. He also said that merchandise and sponsorship is higher.
Golovkin vs. ÃÆ' lvarez
After defending his belt against Jacobs, Golovkin stated that he wanted to unite the middle class division and hold all available belts. The only big belt that is not hers is the WBO title held by British boxer Billy Joe Saunders. After defeating Jacobs, Golovkin said, "My goal is all the belts in the middle class division.Of course, Billy Joe is the last one. It's my dream." There was a rumor about the fight going on in Golovkin, Kazakhstan's home country in June during EXPO 2017. The last time Golovkin fought in his home country was in 2010. On March 20, Golovkin said that he would fight Saunders in his native Kazakhstan or O2 Arena in London.
Saunders tweets on social media that although he does not watch Golovkin's fight with Jacobs, he's ready to fight it. Saunders claimed to have signed a contract at the end and gave Golovkin a deadline to sign it. On March 29, promoter Frank Warren also stated that Golovkin would have ten days to sign the fight. Saunders later claimed to have moved from Golovkin, until Warren said the deal was still valid. During the following week, Saunders continued to insult Golovkin through social media. On April 7, Warren told iFL TV, that Golovkin suffered a hand injury, which is the reason why the fight was not done. In an interview, he said, "Right now, they say that Golovkin is hurt, so we wait to see where all this is happening, but as far as I know, we agree [term]." He also noted that he will wait until May 6, for any updates. On 11 April, it was reported that the fight would not happen and Golovkin would eventually focus on the September 2017 match against Canelo ÃÆ' lvarez.
Immediately after Chavez's battle on May 6, Canelo ÃÆ'lvarez announced that he would fight the next Golovkin on the weekend of 16 September 2017 at the location to be determined. Golovkin, who before the fight stated that he would not be present, joined his coach Abel Sanchez and promoter Tom Loeffler. Golovkin joined him in the ring during the announcement to help promote their upcoming battle. Speaking through a translator, ÃÆ' lvarez said, "Golovkin, you are next, my friend, the fight is over, I'm never afraid of anyone, because I'm 15 years old as a professional When I was born, fear was gone." When Golovkin arrives in the ring, he says, "I feel very happy." This is a different story In September, it will be a different style - a great drama show I'm ready tonight first to congratulate Canelo and his team. At the moment, I think everyone is excited for September.Canelo looks really good tonight, and 100 percent of him is the biggest challenge of my career.Good luck at Canelo in September. "In a post-fight press conference, both boxers face to face and talk about the upcoming battle.
On May 9, Eric Gomez, president of Golden Boy Promotions told LA Times that ÃÆ' lvarez has a re-match clause immediately in place on his contract, while Golovkin, if he loses, will not be guaranteed a rematch. Oscar De La Hoya later also revealed in an interview with ESPN the fight will take place in the full middle class limo of £ 160 with no rehydration clause, meaning Golovkin and ÃÆ' lvarez will be able to get an unlimited amount of weight weight following weight on the 5th June, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas is announced as a battleground, and will mark the first time Golovkin will fight in Nevada. AT & amp; T, Madison Square Garden and Dodgers Stadium did not participate in the fight. Eric Gomez of the Golden Boy Promotions said in a statement that ÃÆ' lvarez will be fighting for IBF which means he will participate on the second day, where the IBF requires every boxer to weigh no more than 10 pounds beyond the 160 pound limit. Although he said there was no news of whether ÃÆ' lvarez would fight for the WBC title, ÃÆ' lvarez claimed he would not. On July 7, 2017, Golden Boy and K2 Promotion individually announced tickets were sold out.
On August 15th, Golden Boy matchmaker Robert Diaz revealed that ÃÆ' lvarez will indeed attend the mandatory second day of IBF weighing and is entirely meant to fight for the IBF degree along with the WBA degree. He made it clear that while Golovkin would still retain the IBC and IBO titles, ÃÆ' lvarez would not pay the cost of their sanctions. On 22 August, IBF president Daryl Peoples announced that they would leave the second day obliged to follow unification, meaning no fighters were required to participate, but they would still encourage them to do so. It is reported that ÃÆ' lvarez will earn a base of at least $ 5 million and Golovkin will earn $ 3 million, before any part of the revenue is added to their wallets.
In the night battle, in front of the crowd sold 22,358, Golovkin and ÃÆ'varez struggled for a draw (118-110 ÃÆ' lvarez, 115-113 Golovkin, and 114-114). ESPN's Dan Rafael and HBO Harold Lederman scored 116-112 goals to win Golovkin. Judge Adalaide Byrd's scorecard 118-110 which supports ÃÆ' lvarez is widely ridiculed. Many observers feel that Golovkin won a narrow and contested battle, and while a draw can be justified, a card that supports ÃÆ' lvarez is inexcusable. Nevertheless, Bob Bennett, director of the Nevada Athletics Commission, said he had full confidence in Byrd. Regardless of the controversy, some mainstream media called the fight a "classic". The fight begins with both boxers finding their rhythm, ÃÆ' lvarez using his footwork and Golovkin building his prick. During the middle round, especially between 4 and 8, ÃÆ' lvarez started each round quickly, but appeared to be tired after a minute, with Golovkin taking charge and doing enough to win the round. The championship round was arguably the best round and ÃÆ' lvarez began to compete again and the two fighters stood swinging, most of which escaped. The draw brought Golovkin to his seventh straight game. CompuBox statistics show that Golovkin is busy of two, landing 218 of 703 disposed (31%), while ÃÆ' lvarez is more accurate, landing 169 of the 505 thrown (34%). Golovkin came out pressing ÃÆ' lvarez in 10 of 12 rounds. Repetition, which occurred a week later on HBO averaged 726,000, peaking at 840,000 viewers.
Speaking to Max Kellerman after the battle, Golovkin said, "It was a great drama show. [Scoring is not my fault.] I pressed it every turn." See, I still have all the belts I'm still champion. "ÃÆ' lvarez feels as if he won the battle, "In the first half, I went out to see what he had, then I built from there I think I won eight rounds I feel that I won the fight. I think I am superior in the ring. I won at least seven or eight rounds. I was able to match and make Gennady falter at least three times. If we fight again, it's up to the people. I feel frustrated because of my draw. Golovkin coach Abel Sanchez believes judge Byrd has filled out his scorecard before the first bell rings. ÃÆ' lvarez ruled out another fight in 2017, claiming he will return on Cinco de Mayo weekend in May 2018. At a post-fight press conference, ÃÆ' lvarez said through an interpreter, "Look, now I want to rest. Whatever fans want, whatever people want and demand, we'll do it. You know it's my style. But now, who knows if it's May or September? But one thing is certain - this is my era, the Canelo era. Golovkin promoter Tom Loeffler stated that they want a rematch soon, but Golovkin, who prefers to compete at least three times in a calendar year, reiterated his desire to also fight in December, WBO middle class Saunders says he is ready for Golovkin and wants fighting in December too.
The fight surpassed Mayweather-ÃÆ' lvarez to reach the third highest gate in boxing history. ESPN reported a $ 27,059,850 bout of 17,318 tickets sold. 934 free tickets are given, according to NSAC. Mayweather vs ÃÆ' lvarez sold 16,146 tickets to produce a live gate worth $ 20,003,150. Repetition, which occurred a week later on HBO averaged 726,000, peaking at 840,000 viewers. The LA Times reported a bout producing 1.3 million purchases of domestic PPV. Although HBO made no official announcement, it was believed that its revenues would exceed $ 100 million.
Canceled ÃÆ' lvarez rematch
Immediately after the controversial end, the talks began for a rematch between ÃÆ' lvarez and Golovkin. ÃÆ' lvarez says he will fight next in May 2018, while Golovkin is open to a fight in December 2017. ESPN reports that ÃÆ' lvarez, who only has a rematch clause in his contract, should activate it within three weeks of their fight. On September 19, Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez told ESPN that everyone on their side was interested in the rematch and they will hold discussions with Tom Loeffler in the coming days. Ringtv reported that the negotiations will begin on 22 September. On Sept. 24, Gomez said the rematch is likely to take place in the first week of May 2018, or if the deal can succeed, we can see the fight taking place in early March.. Despite ongoing negotiations for a rematch, at the 55th annual convention in Baku, Azerbaijan on October 2, the WBC formally ordered a rematch. Golden Boy President Eric Gomez told ESPN, "Regardless of whether they did or did not order a rematch, we will try to make it happen, we will do anything to make it happen." On Nov. 7, Eric Gomez indicated the negotiations went well and ÃÆ' lvarez will make a decision regarding the rematch in the coming weeks. It is believed that Golden Boy will wait until after David Lemieux and Billy Joe Saunders fought for the WBO title last on December 16, 2017 before making a decision. On November 15, Eddie Hearn, promoter Daniel Jacobs stated that he approached Tom Loeffler about the possibility of a rematch between Golovkin and Jacobs if the re-match ÃÆ' lvarez-Golovkin failed. On December 20, Eric Gomez announced that negotiations were almost completed after ÃÆ' lvarez gave Golden Boy a green light to write a contract. On January 29, 2018 HBO finally announced the rematch would take place on May 5 on the weekend of Cinco de Mayo. On February 22, T-Mobile Arena was again chosen as a battleground. According to the WBC, unlike the first fight, ÃÆ' lvarez will fight for their title.
On March 5, 2018, ÃÆ' lvarez tested positive for using clenbuterol substances ahead of the fight. Adding to the controversy, Golovkin coach Abel Sanchez claims that ÃÆ' lvarez has his hands wrapped in an illegal way for the first fight. On March 23, the Nevada State Athletics Commission temporarily suspended ÃÆ' lvarez for two positive tests for clenbuterol substances. ÃÆ' lvarez was asked to appear at a commission meeting, either directly or by phone, on this issue on April 10. The Commission will decide on trial whether the fight will be allowed to run on schedule. Tom Loeffler stated that Golovkin intends to fight on May 5, regardless of his opponent is ÃÆ' lvarez or anyone. On March 26, former double-middleweight champion Demetrius Andrade (25-0, 16 KO), who began campaigning in the middle class in 2017, puts himself in equality and offers to fight Golovkin on 5 May. On 29 March, IBF is obliged Challenger Manager Sergiy Derevyanchenko Keith Connolly told Boxing Scene that Derevyanchenko will be ready to replace ÃÆ' lvarez and fight Golovkin in his place if the bout was postponed on 10 April. On March 28, MGM Resorts International, which owns T-Mobile Arena, began offering full refunds to anyone who has already bought tickets for the fight. They write, "If fans request a refund, they can get it in the original and full sale place." The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported the news. The trial of ÃÆ' lvarez was rescheduled for April 18 when Bob Bennett filed a complaint against ÃÆ' lvarez. On April 3, ÃÆ' lvarez officially resigned from the rematch. The Golden Boy mentioned during the press conference hinted that ÃÆ' lvarez is unlikely to be cleared at the hearing and they will not have enough time to promote the fight. At trial, ÃÆ' lvarez was sentenced to six months, returning to his first drug test failed on Feb. 17, meaning the ban will expire on August 17, 2018. Promoter De La Hoya then announced that ÃÆ' lvarez will return to ring on Mexico's Independence Day weekend.
Golovkin vs. Martirosyan
On April 2, before ÃÆ'varez resigned from the rematch, Loeffler stated that Golovkin will fight on May 5 regardless whether it will be ÃÆ' lvarez or another boxer and a bout will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise. During the battle, Golovkin said, "I look forward to returning to Las Vegas to defend my 20th title and to lead my first Cinco De Mayo event on May 5. It's time for less drama and more battles," On April 5th, ESPN reported the Mexican boxer, Jaime Munguia (28-0, 24 KO), an untested 21-year-old prospect who previously fought in the middle and light middle classes going in and against Golovkin. Later that day, Lance Pugmire of the LA Times declared sources close to the NSAC, although Tom Loeffler did not file any names, if the name Munguia was mentioned, it would not be approved. Promoter Derevyanchenko, Lou DiBella petitioned the IBF to force compulsory. With less than a month before the scheduled fighting date, the NSAC cancels the fight, which means it will not happen at the MGM Grand. Before NSAC cancels the battle, Lance Pugmire of LA Times reports that Golovkin will still fight on May 5, but will take place at the StubHub Center in Carson, California on a regular HBO. Former middle-class and local California middle-class champion Vanes Martirosyan (36-3-1, 21 KO) became a front runner to challenge Golovkin. IBF states that they will not sanction their belts if the fight is made and Golovkin is potentially stripped of his title. Martirosyan was criticized as an opponent because he had become the light of the middle class career, he suffered a loss and he never fought in two years. The WBC approved Martirosyan as a late opponent. On April 18, Martirosyan was confirmed as opposed to Golovkin, with the event being billed as 'Mexican Style 2' on May 5th at the StubHub Center. A day later the IBF stated that either Golovkin or Loeffler made an exception request, but if and when they did, the IBF would consider the request. On April 27, the IBF agreed to hold the fight as long as Golovkin would make a mandatory defense against Derevyanchenko on 3rd August 2018.
On the night of the fight, ahead of 7,837 fans, Golovkins beat Martirosyan in round 2 to tie Bernard Hopkins's record of 20 consecutive middle-class defenses. Golovkin applied the pressure immediately to support Martirosyan against the rope and landed his blow. Martirosyan had a brief success at the end of round 1 when he landed a combination of punches. Once again at the start of round 2, Golovkin starts off quickly. He landed on the right followed by a body shot. He then connected with nine unanswered electric shots and eventually fell facing the canvas. Referee Jack Reiss made 10 full counts. The termination time is 1 minute. 53 seconds. Speaking of Golovkin's strength in the post-fight, Martirosyan said it was like 'hit by a train.' Golovkin said: "It was great to get a knockout, Vanes was a very good fighter, he caught me a couple of times in the first round, and in the second round I got out of business after I felt it in the first round." For the bout Golovkin landed 36 of 84 blows were thrown (43%) and Martirosyan landed 18 of his 73 tosses (25%). Golovkin's wallet for the fight is $ 1 million and Martirosyan earns a smaller sum of $ 225,000. The fight averaged 1,249,000 viewers and peaked at 1,361,000 viewers, making it the most watched boxing game on cable television in 2018.
