History
Overview
It was also the last of the five Supremes songs in a row to go number one (the other being "Where We Love," "Baby Love," "Come See Me," and "Stop In Love Name"). The eight songs are almost identical to Holland-Dozier-Holland hit, The Isley Brothers "This Old Heart of Mine."
The famous idea of ââusing the name Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard on singles may be partly because Motown's marketing strategy featured each individual Supreme, compared to other groups of the day, with the exception of The Beatles, known on a one-name collective basis. On the album where the single appeared, More Hits by Supremes , and on the cover of the official single, each member is depicted separately on the front, with his signature on it.
The Supremes performed the song on The Mike Douglas Show , a syndicated afternoon program, on May 5, 1965 and again on November 3rd. They performed nationally on the NBC variety program Hullabaloo! on Tuesday, May 11, 1965, culminating in the music charts in the following weeks.
