The Chicago Design Museum (ChiDM) is a design museum in the Chicago loop. Founded in 2012 as a pop-up museum, and holds exhibitions in various places in Chicago in 2012 and 2013. After the successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign in 2014, the museum opened a permanent location in the 37th block building.

Mission and destination

The Chicago Design Museum's mission is to "strengthen the design culture and build communities by facilitating the exchange of knowledge through dynamic experiences."

The program is collaborative and community-based, largely relying on local volunteers for exhibition design, curation, registration, marketing, and other core functions of museology. With a small staff, the foundation is "in the vision and work of many volunteers."

The museum is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that believes that design has the capacity to improve the human condition in a fundamental way. It fosters free, open, and honest involvement with diverse audiences through permanent collections, exhibition play, and educational programs.

Great Ideas of Humanity

Great Ideas of Humanity is a series of ads in which contemporary artists and designers are asked to create artworks that respond to citations by eminent scientists, philosophers, and academics. The series serves as a "recognition of the increasing globalization or our world and resulted in cross pollination of ideas, philosophy, society, and culture," and was inspired by the great ideas of the West Man campaign by the Chicago Container Corporation of America. Ads from this series have been exhibited in downtown Chicago on the Bus Rapid Transit advertising giant, and in Hong Kong at the Design Week Week Design InnoTech.

Chicago Design Market

The Chicago Design Market is "a series of spinning pop-up shops that create an unexpected by putting small artists that appear next to larger established businesses.Located on the third floor of Block 37," the shops are not charged for utilities and do not pay fixed monthly rent. Package Design

The Design Pack is a card for a Humanity expansion card that includes 30 picture cards that interpret the famous George Carlin monologue 1972, "Seven Words You Can not Tell on Television". All proceeds from the Design Package benefited the Chicago Design Museum, with sales exceeding $ 130,000 in the first few days on the market. Similar nonprofit packages by Cards Against Humanity have collected nearly millions of dollars for partner organizations DonorsChoose.org, Wikimedia Foundation, and Sunlight Foundation.
