Plot
Holly and Gerry are married couples living in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. They are very love, but they fight occasionally. In the winter of that year, Gerry suddenly died of a brain tumor, and Holly realizes how meaningful she is and how trivial their arguments are.
Desperately desperate, Holly withdrew from family and friends from sadness until they came down on her 30th birthday. They are determined to encourage the young widow to face the future and find out what her life choices are. As they gather around Holly and help organize her apartment, the cake is delivered, and with it is a message from Gerry. This proved to be the first of several meaningful messages - all ending with "I Love You" - which he had planned to send to him after his death.
As the season passes, each new message fills itself with encouragement and sends it to a new adventure. Holly's mother believed that Gerry's letters made Holly tied to the past. But actually they push it into the future. With Gerry's words as his guide, Holly slowly begins her journey of discovery.
Gerry arranged for Holly and her friends Denise and Sharon to travel to her homeland in Ireland. They arrive at their destination, a beautiful Irish country house where they find letters from Gerry to Sharon & amp; Denise, who asked Denise to take Holly to her favorite pub. While there, they meet William, a singer who deeply reminds Holly about her late husband. She asks him to keep seeing her after her last song ("Galway Girl"), which she dedicates to her. Upon hearing it, he was overwhelmed with emotion and walked out, because it was a song that Gerry sang for him shortly after they first met.
During the holidays, while fishing, they lost a boat rowing, leaving three women stranded in the middle of the lake. While waiting for their help, Sharon announces that she is pregnant and Denise reveals that she is getting married. This news caused Holly to relapse emotionally and again withdraw. They were eventually rescued by William, whom Sharon and Denise invite to stay the night due to the heavy rain.
Can not deny their feelings to each other, they kiss, and William and Holly have sex. They start a conversation about her late husband and Holly asks William to escort him to visit his mother-in-law. After Holly reveals their names, William realizes she is the widow of her childhood friend. Revealing this to Holly caused him to panic, but William calmed him down and started telling stories about his childhood and Gerry. The next day, Holly visits Gerry's parents and while there, she also receives a letter from Gerry reminding her of their first encounter.
Arriving at home, Holly again withdrew from family and friends. As he continues to become more and more lost, he is inspired by Gerry after finding one of the suspender clips next to one of his shoes and realizes he has a knack for designing women's shoes; she enrolled in a classroom that taught her how to really make the shoes she designed. The newly discovered confidence allows him to break out of his loneliness and embrace the happiness of his friends.
While walking with his mother, he learns that his mother is the one Gerry requested to send his letter after his death and received the last letter. When the film ends with Holly taking her mother on a trip to Ireland, we see that Holly has opened up to begin the journey with the next chapter of her life, and wherever she takes her, she has the hope of falling in love again.

The difference between a novel adaptation and a movie
The main difference between the novel and the film adaptation is that, in the novel, the main characters of Holly and Gerry Kennedy are Irish. In the film, only Gerry is Irish, Holly and her family are Irish Americans, and both live in New York. Also in the novel, Holly has many brothers, but in the movie she has one. The film adds a character called William, played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Another change is that in the book, the letters arrive in a package together and Holly is expected to open them once a month. In the film, letters are delivered by mail. The film remains faithful to the novel, and all of Gerry's letters are almost unchanged.

Manohla Dargis of The New York Times said the movie "looks clean and is really straight and very far from the shadow world where Ms. Swank has done her best work, but as directed by Richard LaGravenese... has a curious morbid quality... [It] will not win any awards, it's not the kind of work that flatteres criticism taste. It does not make sense in terms of big and small... and there are some set pieces that are horrified, some involve Mr. Butler and the guitar, this movie is not a beautiful object or an impressive culture, but it's a charm, yet awkward. The sincerity and naked emotionalism of Mrs. Swank suits Mr. LaGravenese's melodramatic merit. "
David Wiegand of the San Francisco Chronicle writes, "This is a movie that will startle you and get anesthetized from start to finish, if you do not go to the exit first.the only good thing in it is Lisa Kudrow and Swank's wardrobe. The plot is amazing, even though a competent script can fix it.The direction is soft and uninspired, the casting is wrong, and the show runs from unattractive to unbearable... the movie desperately wants it to be Ghost without a pottery wheel, but it just worked out to be terrible. "
John Anderson of Variety also has a negative review: "The question of love after death has been asked quite often in movies, but rarely with the high ick factor found in PS I Love You ... this post-life comedy will have an openly mourned sentimental, holding tightly to the boys' pants and husband trying to escape from the passage.Just LaGravenese's journey into the Lifetime region can determine the guilty pleasures of the genre... As an exercise in chick-flickery, PS I Love You wants to have the soulfulness of the bitter reality and lilt romantic fantasies at the same time.In this case, at least, it can not be done. "
Stephen Whitty of The Oregonian wrote, "In the week when many people just wanted a good reason to put their pack and smile for a few hours, PS I Love You arrived - signed, sealed, and delivered on time. "
The Irish reviewer is highly critical of Irish Butler's accent. Butler then jokingly apologized for his poor attempt with an Irish accent.
