Prospector Hat

Stetson invented a rough hat for himself made of thick beavers that tasted while panning for gold in Colorado. According to legend, Stetson found a hat while on a hunting trip while showing his friends how he could make a cloth from a feather without tanning. Feathers feel lighter caps, they retain their shape, and weather resistance and renovation is better.

Stetson made a very big hat from the one he made from leather collected on the journey, and put on a hat for the rest of the expedition. Although initially used as a joke, Stetson immediately liked the hat for its ability to protect it from elements. It has a wide rim, a high crown to hold air pockets on its head, and is used to carry water.

As their journey continues, a cowboy is said to have seen JB Stetson and his unusual hat, climbed, tried the hat for himself, and paid Stetson for him with a five-dollar piece of gold, riding with the first western Stetson hat on his head.

Boss of the Plains

Stetson's western adventure ended in 1865. Stetson, now 35, and in better health, returns to the east and sets up his hat company in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which produces high quality hats for outdoor use. After generating some initial designs based on the popular style of the day, Stetson decided to make a hat based on his experience in West America, which he called "Bos of the Plains".

The original "Boss", produced by Stetson in 1865, is flat brimmed, has a straight-sided crown, with rounded corners. This lightweight and waterproof hat is naturally colored, with a crown and a four-inch ledge. Bando plain mounted to adjust head size. The tape buoy contains the name John B. Stetson.

Price and popularity

Stetson produces a very expensive hat. The cowboy who rides a horse wearing a hat of "Boss of the Plains" shows the world that he is all right "." Within a decade, John B. Stetson's name became synonymous with the word 'hat' in every corner and Western culture. "

The crown and full crown shape is often modified by the wearer for fashion and to protect against the weather by being softened in hot steam, molded, and allowed to dry and cool. Feeling inclined to maintain the shape in which it dries. Western hat is crowned high, wide, and feels soft followed closely related to the image of American cowboys.

Mass production

Stetson sent a sample cap to merchants across the Southwest with a letter requesting a minimum order of a dozen "Boss of the Plains" caps. The hat was a direct success: in less than a year, Stetson set up a new factory on the outskirts of Philadelphia to handle his growing business. In 1886, the Stetson cap company was the largest in the world, and had mechanized the hat-making industry ("generating nearly 2 million caps per year in 1906"). The Stetson Hat Coceased production in 1968 and licensed other hat companies, but these hats still wear the Stetson name with a hat produced at St. Joseph, Missouri. Later the license was transferred to another cap company in Texas.

"Today's cowboy hat remains essentially unchanged in construction and design since the first one was made in 1865 by J. B. Stetson."

Stetson also produces "dress" hats, which are distinguished from "western" hats with narrower edges and shorter crowns but they are "Boss of the Plains" style hats and many variants that fuel the growth and fame of the company.

Singing a cowboy and a ten-gallon hat

In the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century, hats were a very important item in everyone's wardrobe. Stetson focuses on high-quality expensive hats that represent real investments for working cowboys and successful statements for city dwellers.

Initially, Stetson's hat became associated with Western legends, including "Buffalo Bill", Calamity Jane, Will Rogers, and Annie Oakley. It is said that George Custer rose to the Battle of Little Big Horn by wearing Stetson. Then, Western movie cowboys quickly adopted Stetson; many are interested in the biggest and most flamboyant styles available.

The Texans are known for their preference for the "Ten Galon" model. According to Win Blevins' Western Dictionary (p388), the term "ten-gallon" has nothing to do with the cap's fluid capacity, but comes from the Spanish word galÃÆ'³n

Change mode

Stetson also produces women's hats, operating hat departments from the 1930s through the 1950s. Hat sales suffered during the Depression years, but Stetsons remained everywhere until the embrace of American headwear faded after World War II. At its peak Stetson operates in Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Guatemala, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, and West Germany.

Stetson changed its business strategy in the early 1970s, closing its plant in Philadelphia in 1971 and continuing its hat business through licensing arrangements with a number of manufacturers.

The popular demand for western style hats jumped during the 1980s after the success of the Indiana Jones and Urban Cowboy films. Both Western hats and dresses continue to be an important accessory for men.

Diversification

In the 1980s Stetson began to diversify, releasing the first Stetson cologne in 1981 and Lady Stetson in 1986. Suitcases, bags, umbrellas and scarves also carry the sign of Stetson. Today, Stetson is available in the US, Canada, Mexico, and across Europe and Asia. Brands currently carry western hats, fashion hats, perfumes, sunglasses, clothing, shoes, belts and accessories, and bourbon.

Military and police uniform

United States

The hat was first sold in Central City, Colorado in 1865 in a style called "Bos of the Plains." In some versions of the famous American ballad "Stagger Lee", Billy Lyons was killed by Stack A Lee on top of Stetson's hat. Modern US Army cavalry regiments will often wear stetsons at ceremonial events instead of ACU patrol caps or berets.

Bureau of Assassination and Robbery The Dallas police used Stetson's hat as a badge of the office.

Additionally, on April Fool's Day, 2011, the US Army released a humorous remark that the Army's official black berets would be replaced by Stetsons. The statement comes with photographs of soldiers with photos of Stetsons peeling their berets, including an Army dog carrying Stetson.

English paramilitary

The Legion of Frontiersmen made in 1905 in England also wore Stetson.

South African Police

The South African police organized by Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell in 1901 wore Stetson.

Canadian military

In the Second Boer War, flat-brimmed Stetson became the standard issue of the 2nd Canadian Contingent, recognized throughout the United Kingdom as a symbol of Canada. Twelve hundred Canadian troops are part of the Constabulary of South Africa under the leadership of Robert Baden-Powell, and after seeing these troops in action at Relief of Mafeking, Baden-Powel ordered 10,000 of these caps for British troops under his command..

Canadian Police

Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Serge Red dress uniforms include Stetson with flat brim. The Stetson was first used unofficially by North West Attached Police, in place of a traditional white pith helmet, impractical for Western Canada. Colors for RCMP Stetson are sometimes referred to as "Belly Belgium"; it is a violet color, like a pastel underneath Belgian rabbit's belly. This is also a very little "second name" used for Stetson. Although called Stetson, this type of hat should be considered a campaign cap.

Ontario Provincial Police also wore Stetson (gray woven fabric) as part of their uniform from 1909 to 1930s and again from 1997 to 2009.
