The eighth season of The Walking Dead, a post-apocalyptic American horror television series on AMC, aired on October 22, 2017, and ended on April 15, 2018, consisting of 16 episodes. Developed for television by Frank Darabont, the series is based on eponymous comic book series by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard. His executive producers are Kirkman, David Alpert, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, Tom Luse, and Gale Anne Hurd, with Gimple pioneering for his fifth and final season. The eighth season has received positive reviews from critics.
This season adapted material from the # 115-126 edition of the comic book series and focused on Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), his survivors and everyone at Alexandria Safe-Zone, the Hilltop, the Kingdom, and then Scavengers going to war with the Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and the Savior.

The Walking Dead has been updated by AMC for the 16th episode of the eighth season on October 16, 2016. Production begins on April 25, 2017, in Atlanta, Georgia. On July 12, 2017, production closed after stuntman John Bernecker was killed, having fallen more than 20 feet to the concrete floor. Production resumes on July 17th.
The premiere season, which also serves as a series 100 series milestone episode, is directed by executive producer Greg Nicotero.
In November 2017, it was announced that Lennie James who portrays Morgan Jones, will leave The Walking Dead after the end of this season, and he will join the cast of the spin-off series of Fear of Walking Dead .

The first trailer for the season was released on July 21, 2017 at San Diego Comic-Con. The second trailer was released on February 1, 2018 for the second part of the season.
On March 15, 2018, it was announced that the end of season and fourth season premiere of Fear the Walking Dead will be played at AMC, Regal and Cinemark cinemas across the United States on April 15, the same day as TV aired, for "Survival Sunday: The Walking Dead & amp; Fear of Walking Dead ". The episode marks the first crossover between two series. Film filtration also includes an extra half hour of exclusive bonus content.

The eighth season of The Walking Dead has received positive reviews from critics. At Rotten Tomatoes, this season holds a 71% score with an average rating of 6.94 out of 10, based on 13 reviews, and an average 72% episode score. The essential consensus of this site reads: "The Eighth Walk of Dead energizes his character with some much-needed anxiety and action, though it is sometimes still choppy and less mobile advanced groove development. "
