Nugent toured with local Detroit musician Alex Winston during the summer of 2007 and 2008.
On July 4, 2008, at the DTE Energy Music Theater in Clarkston, Michigan, Ted Nugent played his 6,000th concert. Derek St. Holmes (original singer for band Ted Nugent), Johnny Bee Agencyjek (drummer for Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels), and Nugent guitar teacher from 1958, Joe Podorsek, all stuck on stage with Nugent for a variety of tones.
The Amboy Dukes
The first edition of Amboy Dukes was screened at The Cellar, a teenage dance club outside Chicago in Arlington Heights, Illinois, beginning in late 1965, while Nugent was a student at St. Viator High School. The Cellar's "house band" at the time was Shadows of Knight, although Amboy Dukes eventually became a subject until the closing of the club.
Amboy Dukes' second single was "Journey to the Center of the Mind", featuring lyrics written by second guitarist Dukes, Steve Farmer. Nugent, an ardent anti-drug campaigner, always claims that he does not know that this song is about drug use. The Amboy Dukes (1967), Travel to the Center of the Mind (1968), Migration and Rusty Day 1969) - all recorded on the Mainstream label - sold pretty well. On April 5, 1968, Nugent along with a group of musicians paid tribute to Martin Luther King by holding a folk music session, rock and blues. Joni Mitchell played first, followed by Buddy Guy, Cactus, and Jimi Hendrix. Other musicians who participated were BB King and Al Kooper.
After settling on a farm in Michigan in 1973, Nugent signed a recording contract with Frank Zappa's DiscReet Record label and recorded Call of the Wild. The following year, Tooth Fang & amp; Claw (which contains the song "Great White Buffalo", arranged with Rob Grange) established a fan base for Nugent and other Amboy Lambs. The personnel changes almost destroyed the band, which came to be known as Ted Nugent & amp; Amboy Dukes. Nugent reunited with another member of Amboy Dukes at the 2009 Detroit Music Awards, which took place April 17, 2009. The psychedelic band received a distinguished achievement award at the event. The Dukes also played together at the ceremony, marking their first public performance in over 30 years.
Solo Career
Nugent dropped the band name Amboy Dukes for good in 1975, and signed with Epic Records. Derek St. Holmes (guitar, vocals), Rob Grange (bass) and Clifford Davies (drums) were the main additional band members for the 1970s multi-platinum album: Ted Nugent (1975), Free -for-All (1976) and Scratch Fever Cat (1977). These albums produced popular radio songs "Hey Baby", "Stranglehold", "Dog Eat Dog", and "Cat Scratch Fever". It was during the three years that Nugent emerged as a guitar hero for hard rock fans, many of whom were unaware of his long apprenticeship with Amboy Dukes. The band's lineup toured extensively, also released a multi-platinum live album Double Live Gonzo! (1978), until his separation in 1978 when St. Holmes and Grange leave. St. Holmes was replaced by Charlie Huhn and Grange by Dave Kiswiney. Davies went around 1982 after continuing to record Weekend Warriors (1978), State of Shock (1979), Scream Dream (1980) and Intensity in 10 Cities â ⬠(1981). The album "Intensity in 10 Cities" included the controversial song "Jailbait."
On July 8, 1979, Ted was on the King Biscuit Flower Hour rock radio program. This is the original broadcast of Ted's appearance of Live at Hammersmith '79 which was recorded during the second set of nights at the London Hammersmith Odeon in 1979. An album of the program was released in 1997.
During this era, Nugent was famous for his declaration that he was not drinking alcohol or smoking tobacco or marijuana. In an interview for VH1's Behind The Music , Nugent says this is because his father has been admonishing him when he came home with a smell of alcohol after a night of drinking. Nugent has been cited as an influence on the straight edge movement, which excludes drinking and drug use.

In 1989, he joined the supergroup Damn Yankees, with Jack Blades (bass/vocals, Night Ranger), Tommy Shaw (guitar/vocals, Styx) and Michael Cartellone (drums). Damn Yankees (1990) is a hit, being multi-platinum in the US, thanks no small part of the great power of the "High Enough" ballads. The video for this song featured Nugent in the priest's collar, and then in a zebra-striped cloak during a guitar solo. It also saw the first appearance of his 'WhackMaster' hat.

Back in his solo career, Nugent released Spirit of the Wild in 1995, his best album in some time. The album also marks the return of Derek St. Holmes to Nugent studio band.
