Christopher Stephen "Chris" Botti ( "English respelling pronunciation"> BOH -tee , born October 12 , 1962), was an American trumpeter and composer.
In 2013, Botti won a Grammy Award in the Best Pop Instrumental Album category, for the Impressions album. She was also nominated in 2008 for her album Italy and received three nominations in 2010 for Chris Botti In Boston live album. Four of his albums have reached the No. 1 position. 1 on the Billboard jazz album chart .
Being famous for the 2001 recording of his Night Sessions album, Botti has a reputation as a versatile musician in jazz and pop music because of its ability to combine both styles.

He was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Corvallis, though he also spent two years of his childhood in Italy. His earliest musical influences were his mother, a trained pianist and part-time piano teacher. He started playing trumpet at the age of nine, and committed to the instrument at age 12 when he heard Miles Davis play "My Funny Valentine".
In 1981, he was selected as a member of the McDonald's All American High School Jazz band which marked his first appearance at Carnegie Hall. At the age of 17, he ended up at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, convincing his high school to allow him to fulfill his senior year's credit remaining there. Botti builds scenarios so he can also play at Portland clubs at night. The Mount Hood program is headed by Larry McVey, whose bands are the regular proof and stops for Stan Kenton and Mel TormÃÆ'Â © when they are looking for new players. This is where Botti plays with his friend, trombonist and nominated filmmaker Academy Award in the future, Todd Field.
After graduating from high school, Botti studied under jazz educator David Baker and trumpet professor Bill Adam at Indiana University School of Music. Botti also received two grants from the National Endowment for the Arts that enabled him to study with trumpet player Woody Shaw and saxophonist George Coleman for two consecutive summers.

Careers
Initial career
Botti left Indiana University during his final year for a short tour with Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich. In 1985, he moved to New York City to hone his skills as a studio musician.
In 1990, he embarked on a decade-long tour and recorded a relationship with Paul Simon who expanded his exposure to other singers. During that period, he also appeared with Aretha Franklin, Natalie Cole, Bette Midler, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Traders, Scritti Politti, Roger Daltrey, and others.
On August 15, 1991, Botti performed with Paul Simon at Central Park New York as part of the Rhythm of the Saints tour. The show was released commercially as CD Concert in the Park . While on tour with Simon, he meets saxophonist Michael Brecker, who causes Botti to produce the song at Brecker Brothers' Out of the Loop titled "Evocations". The album won the 1995 Grammy for Best Contemporary Jazz Performance.
The Pork solo debut, First Wish , was released in 1995; the second effort, Midnight Without You , which included a collaboration with Blue Nile vocalist Paul Buchanan, appeared in 1997. This was followed by Slowing Down The World in 1999, vocals from Sting and Jonatha Brooke (also on the release of Midnight Without You ).
Botti is also a member of Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, a more experimental fusion-oriented jazz group. He composed the score and recorded the soundtrack for the 1996 film Caught .
In 1999, Botti was invited to tour alongside Sting as the flagship soloist on the Brand New Day tour. The two-year run peaked at All This Time , a CD/DVD recording and webcast performance from Real Sting in Tuscany on September 11, 2001. Botti links his relationship with Sting for changing his career direction.
Columbia Recording (2001-present)
Botti was introduced to Columbia by Bobby Colomby, drummer and founding member of Blood, Sweat & amp; Tears, who later became the producer and manager. The first liberation of Koli Columbia was Night i Sessions in 2001. This was followed in 2002 by December , a holiday album, which included an original composition by Richard Marx. This project represents the only time Botti has done vocals on two songs.
A Thousand Kisses Deep , was released in 2003 and contains an original group and includes Botti accent crossover accents as a jazz and pop musician. When I Fall In Love followed in 2004, featuring a more traditional voice than its predecessor.
To Liked Again: The Duets , released in 2005, went on to where previous albums were left with more lush jazz orchestra through the London Session Orchestra, this time featuring guest vocalists - as well as some instrumental tracks.
In May 2005, Botti was invited to perform at the weekend Oprah Winfrey Legends Ball in honor of his African heroine. In 2006, Billy Childs, Gil Goldstein & amp; Heitor Pereira wins the Grammy for Best Instrumental Actor Accompanying Vocalist: "What Do You Do in Your Lives Time?" (Chris Botti & Sting) from the album Botti To Love Again - The Duets . 2006 also marked his first PBS collaboration, Chris Botti Live: With Orchestra and Special Guests, released in early 2006. CD and platinum-certified DVDs included duets with Sting, Burt Bacharach, Gladys Knight, Jill Scott and Renee Olstead.
On September 25, 2007, Botti released an album titled Italy . The place of the album focuses on the Italian roots of Botti through songs such as "Ave Maria", "Venice", "Estate", and the title song "Italy", in which he partnered with Andrea Bocelli. In December 2007, the album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Album. Botti also performed the song with Bocelli in the 2007 edition of Teatro del Silenzio, which was released on DVD called "Vivere Live in Tuscany" in 2008.
In early 2009, Botti released the second CD/DVD PBS project, Chris Botti In Boston . Performing with Boston Pops Orchestra, Botti shared the stage with Yo-Yo Ma, Steven Tyler, Josh Groban, Katharine McPhee, John Mayer, Sting, and others.
In June 2009, Chris Botti has released 12 solo albums. Some of his first releases are often classified as fine jazz, although critic Alex Henderson argues that Botti music is a snippet above many genres; reviewing his 1999 album Slowing Down the World, Henderson writes "it would be a big mistake to put it together with a... direct elevator... Botti is able to do even more." In the same year and the following year, Botti appeared as a series artist of Pennington Great Performers with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra.
In media
Botti is home band leader at the national daytime talk show syndicated The Caroline Rhea Show for the season only in 2002-2003. He was named one of the most famous People of the Year of 2004.
For several years, Botti also hosted a radio show called Chill with Chris Botti , which focused primarily on "cool" music, described as "delicate jazz with a cool jazz touch." In 2007, saxophonist Mindi Abair took over hosting and show duties, using the same format as before, now called Chill with Mindi Abair . With the success of To Love Again , Botti held a special concert at the Wilshire Theater in Los Angeles in December 2005 with many guest artists from the CD. It was recorded for airing on PBS in spring 2006 as Chris Botti: Live with Orchestra and Special Guests, which was also released as a DVD.
Botti performed the United States national anthem at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, for more than 80,000 spectators and television viewers worldwide on November 3, 2014, before the Indianapolis Colts vs New York Giants National Football League. Link to videos from this performance
