Nicks said the following about the song in an interview in 1989:
"I remain good friends with most of the men in my life." Long Way To Go "was not written in a good way. This happened to be an experience I had with someone I really loved, who... we had broken up long ago, a year before, and I just finished Rock a Little, and I came into my house with Rock a Little under my arm, an acetate... the phone rang, and there it was, and he wanted me to drive two and a half hours wherever he lived... and I was very tired, and it was so late, it was like 3:30, 4 in the morning, and I turned to someone who lived in my house at that time, and I said, 'should I go?' And they say, 'well, that's a long enough way to go to say goodbye again.I think that we've been, basically... Stevie, it took you a very long time to get over this.do you want to go down and start again? 'So I went back and forth and back and forth in my mind, and finally he said to me' I sent a limousine for you. ' And I said okay, so... stupid me, I got in the car and went over there and played a tape for him, and he kept it, which I will never forgive him He keeps my first asset And I think things the last thing I said to him was, 'You know, it's a very long way to go to say goodbye again I think we've done that. Have fun, tell the world.' Which basically means words we do not say over the radio.Goodbye, Forever this time Never call me again, I mean, he put me in the car, and I cried hysterically, and I cried all the way home, and I said, "I will never, ever, put myself in that position again. No one will do that to me again. As much as I love him, I'll never let that happen again. "
