The Formation World Tour is the seventh concert tour by American singer Beyoncà ©  © to support her sixth studio album, Lemonade . The tour of all stadiums was announced after his guest appearance at the first half Super Bowl show. The tour starts on April 27, 2016 at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida and ends on October 7, 2016 at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, which consists of 49 dates. The title of this tour refers to the song Beyoncà ©  © 2016 "Formation". The Formation Tour was very successful, received a warm welcome and every show was sold out.

The production and staging of this tour consists of 60-foot-spinning LED pyramids referred to as 'Monolith', a runway and a secondary stage that stores and produces 2,000 gallons of water. The theme of the tour is described as following the same linear chapter as the one on the Lemonade tour support album, with each rotation of 'Monolith' mentioned above representing a new chapter of the show. Some of the music critics gave positive reviews, with numerous publications praising the production of touring and BeyoncÃÆ'Â © Â performance and vocal abilities. The tour has a number of important opening acts, including a number of special guests who join top DJ Khaled players on stage. Supporting actions also include artists signed to BeyoncÃÆ' Â © own management company Parkwood Entertainment, like the duo Chloe x Halle, who was relatively unknown at the time.

Formation World Tour is ranked # 1 and # 2 on the first year of 2012's Top1Point Tours first chart in North America and around the world, with a mid-year annual gross of $ 137.3 million the first 25 shows (including $ 126.3 million from the first North American tour of the tour). In total, the tour grossed $ 256 million out of 49 sold out shows by Billboard Boxscore, and ranked at # 2 on Pollstar's 2016 Year End Tour chart.

Background and development

On February 6, 2016, BeyoncÃÆ' Â © released "Formation" for free on TIDAL's music streaming service and accompanying music video on YouTube. The next day on February 7, 2016, BeyoncÃÆ'Â © did "Formation" during his guest appearance at the Super Bowl 50 first round event. Immediately after the show, an advertisement aired announced The Formation World Tour, which will start in Miami on April 27, with the first pre-sale to be sold just two days after the announcement on February 9, 2016.

Leading to the tour announcement, BeyoncÃÆ' Â © was praised and criticized for his new song and Black Panther-influenced costume for the Super Bowl part-time performance. As a result, hashtag "#BoycottBeyonce" and "#IStandWithBeyonce" started trending on social media platforms like Twitter. A group of protesters are also planning to stage a "anti-BeyoncÃÆ' Â ©" protest outside the NFL headquarters in New York City on the day public ticket sales go on sale. However, the planned rally met with protesters zero and instead of dozens of supporters of BeyoncÃÆ'Â Â © who held a counter protest. Related albums of the Lemonade tour were released four days before the start of the tour. In a press release by Live Nation Entertainment after the tour announcement, it was revealed that The Formation World Tour would support the local United Way of America program, as well as the Flint water crisis. After the first North American tour of the tour finished, it was announced that fans, who had the option to add donations to the Flint water crisis when purchasing tickets, had collected $ 82,234 for the purpose. In the same press release, BeyoncÃÆ'® partnership with THX was announced, with the aim of delivering the highest level of audio quality at the concert during the duration of the tour. Following the controversy over "Formation", The Miami Fraternal Order of Police was reportedly pushing a national boycott of police officers working security for the concert, ahead of the opening night of the tour in Miami. Other police departments are reportedly pushing to avoid concerts including Tampa and Nashville, Tennessee; but a Tampa police spokesman stated that this 'boycott' had been blown up 'way out of proportion'.

The exercise for the tour took place at Tampa's Raymond James Stadium, which was rented by Live Nation for $ 745,000. TSA board member Thomas Scott talked about the large-scale production of the tour after seeing the stage during practice, stating "it was one of the biggest stages they ever put on, I do not think I've seen a stage that big." During the same period of practice, Beyonce team members met with more than 20 Tampa leaders, including the Tampa Police Chief, for a private lunch in Ybor City, where they discussed ways to make Tampa a better city, so Beyoncà © © make multiple financial promises for specific initiatives.

Stage

The stage for the tour was described by Brian Levine, senior project manager of Tait Towers, as "a game changer for what can be achieved in a stadium tour environment." The whole collaboration of landscapes, structures, and mechanics is tailor-made to create an epic experience for Beyoncà © © and fans ". Designed by Es Devlin and designed and built collaboratively by Stageco and Tait Towers, this tour stage features the center of a rotating 60 foot box, made with video screen walls. Known as 'Monolith', Devlin speaks in a box that says "wants this to be the highest object in the stadium, a piece of kinetic stadium architecture equivalent to a seven-story rotating LED building". Devlin also commented that the box was considered a "gigantic 3D billboard, a large LED armor in which BeyoncÃÆ' © was revealed as a very human, real-life figure" and noted that Beyonce was deeply involved in creativity. process every inch of the stage design. The rotation of the box is said to represent a new chapter of the show, in a line of chapters similar to that of Lemonade . The box takes about 4 minutes to reach one turn.

The stage also consists of a runway, which also acts as a treadmill to the B-stage that fills with puddles. The treadmill on the catwalk is designed to be waterproof to withstand unpredictable weather found in outdoor stadiums. Stage B stores 2,000 gallons of water in it and takes about 10 minutes to be filled, which happens without the audience even realizing it. The inspiration for water on stage B was inspired by the album of Lemonade tour supporters, especially the "Forward" song, because the song message was described as a turning point from anger to forgiveness. "The water pool is the antithesis against the spit-fire monolith, the most fun, the order of redemption of the event taking place here, from" Freedom "to" Hello ", Devlin said. The stage and production tour are said to be so large that the maximum capacity of some places is reduced to made the space for it.Anauthor for Belfast Telegraph states that the maximum capacity for BeyoncÃÆ'Â © s concert in Dublin at Croke Park is reduced from 82,500 to 75,000 people to allow stage size, with event organizer Eamon Fox stating "This is a surprising production and stage show and one of the biggest ever at Croke Park. Costume design

BeyoncÃÆ'  © worked with various designers for costumes on stage during the tour. All styled by BeyoncÃÆ' © ©, Marni Senofonte, references from the tour costumes were compared to those from the wild west, "south before the war", Africa and BDSM. The opening outfits consist of a Victorian inspired look made by Dean and Dan Caten (DSQUARED 2 ), complete with crystal embroidery bustier and oversized western hat. Hat for BeyoncÃÆ' © and the dancers are made by Baron Hats. The outfit also includes leather gloves and bodysuit "tattoo lace". Balmain also produces a Victorian-themed white bodysuit, which contains hand-embroidered embroidery, crystals and glass beads. The clothes are accompanied by matching suede shoes. Peter Dundas of Roberto Cavalli produced the entire bodysuit embroidered in black crystal for the tour, which also included a gold metallic thread and knee high boots that accompanied the knee in military style. Alessandro Michele worked for Gucci to design a sequined bodysuit for Beyoncà ©  ©, incorporating geometric prints and red fur coats. London-based designer Atsuko Kudo designed and produced a simpler bodysuit for the tour, creating a red latex outfit with shoulder pads and a disheveled neckline. Kudo also stated that to make clothes, the size of BeyoncÃÆ' © is used to accurately adjust latex with his body. BeyoncÃÆ'  © also asked Kudo that the outfit was in harmony with the prewar themes that run through the album of the Lemonade tour supporters, which affects the inclusion of frill in chest and creeping neckline. It also notes how BeyoncÃÆ' © did barefoot in water during one gig, while wearing a simple sequined bodysuit. BeyoncÃÆ' © also wears a Givenchy haout couture by Riccardo Tisci's bronze bodysuit, showing an open stomach.

During the Beyonce-born gig in Houston, Texas, Gucci gave out another costume for Beyoncà ©  ©: special bodysuit made with "ruched tulle and sequins and decorated with black panther". During a show on London tour, Beyoncà ©  © debuted a covered gold tricot in 70,000 Swarvoski crystals, designed by Julien Macdonald. It also contains 24 carat gold embroidery components. The mesh stockings worn in accompaniment with hand-to-handed outfits were dyed in a crock pot to properly fit the various colors of the dancers of Beyonce's dancers. Important merchandise sold to fans during the tour includes a tote bag "Hot Sauce", a nod to the line in his single Formation, and "Boycott BeyoncÃÆ'  ©" T-shirt, which is a nod to the above mentioned. The controversy BeyoncÃÆ'  © received after the Super Bowl show 50 first half.

Concert synopsis

Throughout the concert, a large rotating LED display is displayed in the center of the stage, projecting the live image of Beyoncà ©  © and its twenty backup dancers to the audience. The concert begins with BeyoncÃÆ' © doing "Formation", in addition to all the female dancers shadowing and doing the choreography. Angry red lighting and pyrotechnics are featured as "Sorry", "Bow Down" and "Run the World (Girls)" are next performed. "Mine", "Baby Boy" and "Hold Up" are done next, which then smoothly transition into "Countdown". During this performance, Beyoncà ©  © and dancers perform and walk on the catwalk towards the middle of the crowd. Between the set and costume changes, the video clips from Lemonade are projected onto the LED cube, as well as the aerial dancer doing the choreography. Before doing "Me Myself and I" BeyoncÃÆ'  © often stop and talk to the crowd, talk about the relationship that he and his audience have with God and themselves. This show ended with the appearance of "All Night" which BeyoncÃÆ'  © claimed was his favorite song from his new album. "Do not Hurt Yourself" was performed with many other replaceable footage including "Ring the Alarm" and "Independent Women". The next action consists of Beyoncà ©  © and the dancers do more tempo numbers, such as "Feeling Myself", "YoncÃÆ' ©", "Drunk in Love" and "Partition". Another costume change took place, and the show continued with Beyoncà ©  © and the dancers performed "Daddy Lessons" and "1 1". This was then followed by BeyoncÃÆ' © did the acappella rendemen "Love on Top", which was said to connect BeyoncÃÆ' © with his fans and break the space between them.

The first of the two tributes to the Prince is seen as Beyoncà ©  © performing the rendition of "The Beautiful Ones". This is then followed by a large LED cube on a stage that lights up perfectly purple, since the original recording "Purple Rain" is played for the audience. The stage is then seen containing human-sized boxes, where Beyoncà ©  © and dancers perform inside, in tune with remix of 2014 "Crazy in Love", which is then followed by "Naughty Girl". The last act of the show was performed in a large pool of water in the second stage of the tour. Here Beyoncà © à © and its dancers perform choreography and splashing in the water to "Freedom", "Survivor", "End of Time" and closing event number, "Hello". During "Hello" BeyoncÃÆ' © sang alone, started a performance on his knee in a puddle. When the concert ended, Beyoncà ©  © depicted standing on stage "soaking wet, her hair wet, make-up walking and her exhausted body seeing everything except humans".

Critical reception

North America

The opening night of the tour received rave reviews from critics. Hermione Hoby of The Guardian gave the concert 5 stars, stating "He sounds, moves and looks like a goddess and most of us are 'bending' as appropriate". Kelli Kennedy writes for the Associated Press noting that BeyoncÃÆ' © "kills at the opening of the tour" and further remarks "Freedom's" command performance "serves as a reminder to the world that he 'breaks all alone.I'll keep walking because a runner does not stop at herself ". Becky Randel of Billboard felt emotion guiding the atmosphere for the night and stated that "Bey was overcome when the audience knew all the lyrics of her new song," Hold Up "and she often stopped to smile or nod to her vibrant BeyHive Writing for Rolling Stone, Kat Bein says Beyoncà © © is "a prime example of entertainment and vision of an artist at its peak" and then commented "the show is a visual feast as well as a strong emotional tour, packed with fireworks , confetti, rearranging stage design and air dancers ".

Other reviews of North American legs of the tour include Melissa Ruggierie writing for the online Atlanta Journal-Constitution blog. Ruggierie praised Beyoncà ©  ©, especially the strong vocals shown in "1 1" and concluded "watching his stadium stage order for two hours is another reminder of his unlimited ambition". However, it is noted that BeyoncÃÆ' © © does not speak to the crowd very often. After the hometown performance of Beyoncà ©  © in Houston, Brandon Caldwell of Houston Press introduced his article stating "Clock after killing, wigs rob, whipping right, life more alive, boys and curses, and confused, I stood with a puzzled expression on my face. How how does Beyonce do this? At this level? With this magnitude? ". Lorraine Ali of Los Angeles Times closed her positive review of Pasadena's stop from the tour with "Soaking wet and sitting on stage alone, she left the audience with the closing number," Hello. "She has been baptized and reborn into a less than perfect version of Queen Bey, allowing the powerful Beyoncà ©  © to rise from the imperfection ". Jim Harrington of San Jose Mercury News begins his article stating "there are so many moving parts - a tremendous vortex of sharp choreography dancing routines, cool special effects, brilliant fireworks and other tactics for satisfying tens of thousands. "However, Harrington noted that too many pieces of songs than their full version performed, felt the quality exceeded the quantity missed. The first Canadian show of the tour in Edmonton was done in cold and rainy conditions, with Beyoncà ©  saying "Can you feel your fingers? I can not feel mine" and "I must say this is the coldest show I've ever experienced. ". Nevertheless, Sandra Sperounes of Edmonton Journal commented "not even rain or bitter winds could stop our Ms. Flawless, our Survivor, our Queen Bey from dazzling around 40,000 fans at the Commonwealth Stadium on Friday night storms." Sperounes concluded "the sun could not be found, but thanks to Bey's brilliant device, the crowd was left beaming with sadness, girl power and generosity".

Europe

For the opening night of the European tour of the tour in Sunderland, England, Angela Upex of the Evening Chronicle was awarded a 5-star concert, stating "from start to finish, Beyoncà ©  © 's Stadium of Light date is a blinding absolute victory 50,000 East East loyal fans "and added" As a supporter of the Gigs of Light stadium, I've seen it all, but last night was one of the most spectacular concerts I've ever seen. " Charlotte Runcie of The Daily Telegraph was also awarded the same event with 5 stars and opened his positive reviews with "When it comes to innovation, show and creativity in contemporary pop, BeyoncÃÆ' © has beat everyone". Reviewing the first show in London, Lewis Corner of Digital Spy gave the award to 5 stars, noting "its often tough and frightening choreography across numbers like" Run The World (Girls) "," Bow Down "and" End Of Time " very strong and fascinating, but then balanced by the softness of "1 1", "Me, Myself and I" and "Runnin (Lose It All)." BeyoncÃÆ' © Dynamic ability to be strong and vulnerable can not be matched by his contemporaries In fact, we're going so far as to say he easily proves himself as Michael Jackson this generation ".

A writer for Radio DeeJay reviewed a tour stop in Milan, Italy, introducing their article saying "Those who are there will remember for years: BeyoncÃÆ' © [at] the San Siro stadium in Milan is more of a concert". The authors continue to praise the show, visual and choreography stage of Beyoncà ©  © and the live singing before ending the review with "Beyoncà ©  © has proven beyond a doubt to be one of the best singers and performers of our time". Mathilde Doiezie of Le Figaro ended his positive review of the Paris show with "A moment of grace concluded by Halo open hearts, kneeling in water, face still dripping." Glitter plan gun to show the end of Siege After two hours of concerts, not more than a minute, BeyoncÃÆ' © back to backstage.Leaving there, tens of thousands of unvoiced viewers came to worship their pop idols. " A writer for Metro International France speaking at the same event praised the production of the tour which stated it was the biggest show ever seen by Stade de France since the U2 Tour 360  °. However, the article also felt the show had no emotion in certain parts, noting Beyoncà ©  © did not mention the Nice 2016 attacks that occurred one week before the concert.

Commercial performance

Ticket sales

After the tour's announcement, the BeyoncÃÆ' © site collapsed temporarily, as a result of post-Super Bowl ads. After the first round of ticket sales in North America, a second show at Citi Square of New York City was added to the itinerary, due to high demand. During the first round of general European sales, Beyoncà ©  ©'s performance in Amsterdam sold out in 20 minutes, pushing waiting lists to open and promoters trying to set up a second show. Some Swedish fans are not happy because the tickets are sold out quickly for the Friends of Friends date from the tour, with complaints made about the queue system implemented by Ticketmaster. Ticketmaster apologized and stated "unfortunately, there are more who want tickets than they are available." The British show was filled with massive commercial success, with all tickets sold in less than 30 minutes, including 90,000 tickets at London's Wembley Stadium. Many fans share their displeasure online for not being able to secure tickets, and, as always with a concert tour in demand, many tickets find their way to the secondary market with a big markup on the original price. As a result of this, a second London show was added to the schedule, set for July 3, 2016.

After the first round of dates for general North American sales opened to the public, additional events were added at Soldier Field Chicago, due to "extraordinary demand". Jesse Lawrence of Forbes reported that in the secondary market, tickets for The Formation World Tour averaged $ 432 before the tickets reached the general public. On February 17, 2016, Live Nation gave a press release announcing that nearly 1 million tickets had been sold for tours within 48 hours, including sales runs out in Miami, Arlington, Pasadena, Toronto, Chicago, Foxborough, Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, Sunderland, London, Manchester, Dublin, Amsterdam and Stockholm. On May 5, 2016, a second wave of US dates was announced, including 7 new shows and a re-scheduled date for the previously held Nashville show. After his performance in Minneapolis, it was announced that Beyoncà © © was the first woman to headline a stadium show in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, held at the TCF Bank Stadium.

Boxscore

Live Nation Global Touring chairman Arthur Fogel confirmed in an article with Billboard that the Formation World Tour had already exceeded $ 100 million in gross revenue, stating that the date of the Nissan Nashville Stadium from the tour, which had gone on sale on the day the article, has sold 33,000 tickets and earned $ 4 million. In July 2016, Pollstar's top 100 worldwide and North American tour maps were announced. BeyoncÃÆ' Â © ranked at # 1 in North America with a domestic gross of $ 126.3 million from the first North American tour of the tour, and at # 2 with $ 137.3 million on charts worldwide, accounting for the first 25 shows of the tour.

The highest grossing single show was in Los Angeles, Rose Bowl, playing for 55,736 and grossing $ 7.1 million. In Europe, the tour continues to be a success, with 17 sold-out tickets reported by Billboard . The legs include two selling nights at London's Wembley Stadium, playing for 142,500 fans and grossing $ 15.3 million, the sixth largest boxscore reported by Billboard at the time of the article. The highest stops attended by European duty, and the tour as a whole, are in Paris' Stade de France, which is played for a crowd of 75,106 people. The legs grossed $ 86.9 million and played for 867,025 people in total. After the last leg of the tour reported to Billboard Boxscore, the total gross revenue of this tour totaled $ 256,084,556, with a total attendance above 2,224,099. Beyoncà © ©, with The Formation World Tour, also ranked # 2 on Pollstar's annual graph of World's End of the Year. Other Pollstar end of year charts show that two BeyoncÃÆ' © s performances at Wembley Stadium during the tour are the 6th biggest grossing event of the year worldwide, while two stops on New York City Citi Field are best-selling concerts to-5 in the US. Chris Hunt, writing for AXS ticket merchants, reported that The Formation World Tour was one of the 20 highest-grossing tours of all time. Hunt also noted that in the same top 20, the tour has the fewest number of shows.
