Development
After releasing No More Heroes 2 , Goichi Suda has been looking for an opportunity to continue the series, but becomes busy with other projects, such as his involvement with Let It Die. In mid-2016, while working on Let It Die finished, he was invited to one of Nintendo's pre-release developer meetings for the upcoming Nintendo Switch. While the console is different from the Wii, it offers the same motion-based feature through Joy-Con, and he admits he can revive the No More Heroes for the system. He feels this game will fit between the planned Switch titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.
Suda considers the No More Heroes series as a "fun slash" em up kind of game, "but with Travis Strikes Again she wants to play with the history of video games and retro game ideas , and "how Travis will interact with individual rules and individual vibrations of each game." These six games are new games developed for the title, some of which are rewards for existing indie games, with at least one being a vector scan game. When originally announced, some took Suda's comments to reflect that the levels would be set in actual indie games like Miami Hotline and Shovel Knight, but Suda later clarified that this game would be shown as a "T-shirt collaboration", with Travis able to unlock and wear clothing items that promote this indie game, a concept he uses when viewing game expositions such as PAX West. dulnya is Hyper Light Drifter , with Nintendo of America featuring Travis shirt together announcing the release of the game on Switch. Suda wants players to see Travis as an indie game buff, not only to give recognition to indie game scenes, but because of his belief that Grasshopper is similar to an indie developer, and he wants to show his support for small and smaller studios. He estimates that there will be at least 15 indie games represented at Travis Strikes Again , with titles to be disclosed as part of ongoing promotions. The idea of crossing between games is partially influenced by the film Existenz . British artist Boneface will contribute design to boss game battles.
There will also be sections of the game that use the standard gameplay approach like the other No More Heroes titles. One of the goals of the game for Suda is making it completely playable on one Joy-Con controller for the Nintendo Switch version, simplifying the control compared to the second game. Reporters from Eurogamer and Polygon have received Suda's comment that this game can support multiplayer, because Switch supports two Joy-Con. Suda can not talk about this under secrecy at PAX West, but tells reporters who ask about this that there are "two main characters, so drag your own conclusions, if you want".
This game is being developed on Unreal Engine 4. This game is currently planned for release 2018, and becomes exclusive to Switch. At the time of the disclosure, Robin Atkin Downes, Travis's voice in the previous title, was reportedly not asked to re-act his role in Travis Strikes Again .
Travis Strikes Again was teased when the conference revealed Nintendo Switch in January 2017. Suda attended the live event, and appeared on stage to show promotional pictures Travis Touchdown wearing a shirt that read "Travis Strikes Again"; However, no series of No More Heroes is mentioned. Suda said in later interviews that this was a deliberate choice, because he wanted to tease to show Travis himself as the main focus. The game was officially announced as Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes at Nintendo Direct in August 2017, along with further disclosure at the PAX West event a few days later. Suda noted that booking the title, putting the name of the series after Travis Strikes Again , was to offend the fact that he did not regard this game as a direct sequel but "the beginning of a new adventure, from a new series to Travis" occurs at No More Heroes universe. Suda also stated that Travis Strikes Again serves as "something of a stepping stone on the road to No More Heroes 3", and hopes to make a true sequel if the game proves successful enough.
