A falling belief is a confidence-building game that is often done as a group exercise in which a person deliberately lets himself down, relying on another member of the group to catch the person. There are many variants of fallen beliefs. For example, in one type, the group stands in a circle, with one person in the middle with arms folded across his chest and falling in different directions, propelled by the group back to standing position before falling again.

In another variant, a person stands in an elevated position (such as a stage, stepping stool or tree stump) and counting on many people to capture the person. This variant is potentially more dangerous and therefore it is more important to have the rest of the group in position and ready to catch it before he steps onto the platform. This type of fall confidence is shown in the Mean Girls movie during the "attitude change" scenes, and in season 4 of the HBO drama The Wire . Falling trust is often seen in ropes courses.

In 2010, the Comedy Central show introduced a new confidence variant known as "falling confidence belief", which involves host Daniel Tosh approaching random people in public, chanting "Trust Fall! " and fall into that person's word. Two years later, Blake Grigsby revived the concept of trust shock with a YouTube video called "Trust Fall Attack".
