Ikhtisar

As per one of the agreed parts of the AFL-NFL Merger of 1970, the NFL began planning to expand from 26 to 28 teams. In 1971, Pro Football Hall of Fame Hugh McElhenny, a resident of Seattle and an alumnus of the University of Washington, signed a contract with a group called Seattle Sea Lions in the hope of bringing the NFL franchise to the city. In anticipation, he named himself general manager of "Seattle Kings" which did not exist in May 1972, and the following year the franchise gained the support of Edward Nixon, brother of president Richard Nixon. However, McElhenny's plan ultimately failed. On June 15, 1972 Seattle Professional Football Inc. , a group of Seattle businessmen and community leaders started by Herman Sarkowsky and Ned Skinner, announced their intention to acquire an NFL franchise for Seattle. Almost 2 years later on June 4, 1974, the NFL gave this group a franchise expansion. On December 5, 1974, NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle announced the official signing of the franchise agreement by Lloyd W. Nordstrom, representing the Nordstrom family as the majority partner for the consortium. Nordstrom died of a heart attack on January 20, 1976, just months before Seahawks played their first game.

On March 5, 1975, John Thompson, a former University of Washington executive, was hired as general manager of an unnamed team. The nickname Seahawks was chosen on June 17, 1975 after a public naming contest that drew more than 20,000 entries and over 1,700 different names, in which Clark McMillan's suggestion was chosen. The nickname was previously used by the Miami Seahawks Football United Soccer Conference. Thompson recruited and hired Jack Patera, assistant coach of Minnesota Vikings, to become the first head coach of the new team. Patera was introduced as the new head coach at a press conference on January 3, 1976. The expansion draft was held March 30th until 31st, 1976, with Seattle and Tampa Bay Buccaneers alternating options for 39 rounds selecting unprotected players from another 26 teams in the league. The Seahawks were awarded a 2nd overall pick in the 1976 draft, their pick used on Steve Niehaus's defensive tackle. The team took the field for the first time on 1 August 1976 in a pre-season game against the San Francisco 49ers in the new Kingdome.

The Seahawks is the only NFL team to switch conferences twice. The franchise began playing in 1976 in the Western division of the NFC but switched conferences with Buccaneers after a season and joined AFC West. The rearrangement was dictated by the league as part of the 1976 expansion plan, so both expansion teams could play each other twice and any other NFL franchise. Between 1977 and 2002, their division rivals were Denver, San Diego, Kansas City, and Oakland.

Seattle has won ten division titles in their franchise history: AFC West titles 1988 and 1999, and 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2016 NFC West titles. They have won the NFC Game Championship three times in 2005, 2013 and 2014, and lost AFC Championship Game once in 1983; as a result, they are the only team to appear in both AFC games and the NFC Conference Championships. The Seahawks have one Super Bowl win in 2013 and two losses (2005 and 2014). Before 2005 Seattle suffered the longest defeat of the playoff victory of any NFL team, dating back to the 1984 season. The drought ended with a 20-10 victory over the Washington Redskins in the playoffs of 2005. The all-time Seahawks playoff record is 12-12.

Maps History of the Seattle Seahawks

Beginning: 1976-1978

Seahawks have their biggest "wins" before taking to the field for regular season matches. On August 26, 1976, Seahawks traded an eighth round pick in 1977 to Houston Oilers for Steve Largent. The first win of the franchise occurred on 17 October when they beat their expansion brothers Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13-10 in Tampa Bay. On 7 November they won their first game at home, 30-13 over the Atlanta Falcons. It was a single victory in his first two to twelve seasons. However, the exciting games of Jim Zorn and Largent present notices of upcoming entertainment.

The Seahawks hosted the 1977 Pro Bowl at Kingdome on January 17, 1977, and the 63,214 crowd saw AFC beating the NFC 24-14. It was the first selling in Pro Bowl history.

In contrast to the cunning that led them to Largent, Seahawks traded their first round pick in 1977 to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for the draft draft of the first and third rounds. Dallas will choose Tony Dorsett with a pick picked from Seattle.

The 1977 season started with four straight defeats before Tampa Bay came to town. The Seahawks won the "Expansion Bowl II" with a score of 30-23. Two weeks later the season's spotlight occurred on October 30 when quarterback Jim Zorn returned from a four-game absence with an injury to throw four passing goals in a 56-17 win over Buffalo Bills at Kingdome. Seahawks 1977 will finish with a 5-9 record, to set a winning record with a second year franchise.

In 1978, Seahawks achieved their first winning season with a 9-7 record as WR Steve Largent finished second in the NFL with 1,168 receiving yard, Jack Patera was named Best Coach of the NFL and Jim Zorn was named the AFC Player of the Year by Touchdown Club of Washington, DC The season's highlights include being the first team since 1965 to sweep the Raiders (winning 27-7 at home and winning 17-16 in Oakland).

1979 saw Seahawks attract national followers after the first appearance of Monday Night Football on October 29, 1979. After trailing 14-0 against the Atlanta Falcons, Seattle fought back to win 31-28. A passing fake field goal from Zorn to the Efren Herrera kicker made Howard Cosell exclaim "Seahawks gives the nation a lesson in entertaining football!" Good vibrations are short-lived, because the following week Seahawks set an NFL record for the lowest total violation in one game (minus 7 yards) in a 24-0 loss to the Los Angeles Rams at Kingdome. The team rebounded from the embarrassment to win 5 of their last 6 matches, including a 30-7 win over the New York Jets at MNF, to finish with a 9-7 record.

1979-1982

Great hopes after a successive win were crushed in 1980. Seahawks lost their last 9 games to change a 4-3 record to 4-12 seasons. The collapse allowed Seahawks to choose Kenny Easley's safety from UCLA in the first round of the 1981 draft.

In 1981, Seahawks lost five of their first six games on their way to a record of 6-10. Steve Largent has another star season with 1,224 receiving yards. Dave Krieg started his first career at the Zorn injury site on December 6, 1981, finishing 20 of 26 bait in a 27-23 win over the Jets.

In a brief strike season in 1982, Seahawks fired Patera during a strike after losing their first two games. Interim coach Mike McCormack will finish the rest of the season and the Seahawks set a 4-5 record.

1983-1991: Chuck Knox Era

1983

After a disappointing 1982 season (which was shortened by a player strike), Seahawks moved the temporary coach Mike McCormack back to the front office and hired Chuck Knox as their head coach. In 1983, Seahawks fought for a playoff spot with a 6-6 record. Then at week 13, Seahawks defeated Kansas City Chief 51-48 at Kingdome to begin their winning path. They will win 2 of the next 3 games to get their first playground. In a wild-card playoff, Seahawks closed the Denver Broncos and their rookie quarterback, John Elway 31-7. The following week in Miami's Orange Bowl, the Seahawks defeated the Miami Dolphins in dramatic fashion, coming from behind, driving 66 yards in 5 plays, ending with a dramatic Curt Warner TD run. Seattle then rediscovered Miami's return kick to seal a 27-20 win, beating beginner quarterbacks and Dan Marino. The Seahawks season of wonders ends in the AFC Championship Game as they lose to Super Bowl XVIII champion Los Angeles Raiders 30-14. Although the 1983 season ended with an acid record, it was the first breakthrough season for the Seahawks. Curt Warner scrambled for 1,449 yards, scoring 14 goals, and was named AFC Rookie of the Year. Chuck Knox was named AFC Coach of the Year.

1984

The first match of 1984 proved to be cosplay, when Curt Warner suffered a season that ended a knee injury in a 33-0 win over the Cleveland Browns, the first opening day victory in the team's history. Without Warner, a violation of "Ground Chuck" becomes "Air Knox". Led by QB Dave Krieg, Seahawks enjoyed an eight-game winning streak and a 12-4 record. Seahawk Defense posted 3 shutouts. One of the shutouts occurred on November 4th where they beat Chiefs 45-0 in a game highlighted by 4 touchdowns of an interception return (still an NFL record). The season that ended in a two-game losing streak led them to lose division titles and force a wild card game against the Raiders. The Seahawks rode back up Dan Doornink and won 13-7 in the team's last playoff victory for 21 years. The Seahawks fell to the Miami Dolphins Super Bowl tied 31-10 in the division division. Chuck Knox was named AFC Coach of the Year the second year in a row.

1985-90

The 1985 campaign was one of the most frustrating in team history. Seattle went through alternating patterns of winning two consecutive games and losing two in a row, ending at 8-8. Quarterback Dave Krieg graduated for 3,602 yards this season. A defeat of the last game at home to Denver proved to be a microcosm of the season, as the Seahawks squandered an early lead and then had a goal effort that tied the field game to hit on time.

The 1986 season is generally regarded as one of the "passes". A 5-2 start was crushed by a four-game losing streak. Indirectly, the team then went on a journey that saw them win their last 5 games in a convincing way. Included on the run was a 31-14 road triumph over the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, 37-0 shutout Los Angeles Raiders on Monday Night Football and a season that ended a 41-16 win over the bound Super Bowl Denver Broncos. Despite a 10-6 record, Seahawks failed to qualify for the playoffs due to the tiebreak. They were the only team that beat the Super Bowl team (Denver and New York Giants) in 1986.

1987 begins with great expectations and predictions of the Super Bowl appearance. Seahawks have won the lottery for the first take in the extra draft, and they chose Oklahoma University midfielder Brian Bosworth, award winning Dick Butkus 1985 and 1986. The 1987 team, like Bosworth, never fulfilled expectations. After a 24-day work dispute at the start of the season, the team qualified for the playoffs as a wild card with a 9-6 record. The 23-20 overtime defeat to the Houston Oilers in the playoffs was marred by controversial calls negating Fredd Young's deep interception inside the Oilers region in a sudden dead period.

Before the 1988 season began, the team gained new ownership for the first time, when California land developer Ken Behring bought a team from the Nordstrom family. That season, the team won the first AFC West division title in team history, beating the Los Angeles Raiders 43-37 on the road to finish with a 9-7 record. The Seahawks lost 21-13 in the playoff division to the Cincinnati Bowling-bound Super Bowl. The following year, Behring will call former team head coach Tom Flores and general manager of the Los Angeles Raiders.

1989 saw the Seahawks fall to a 7-9 record. During the season, Bosworth's overhyped and underperformed Bosworth suffered a career-end shoulder injury and will continue to be an actor. Also retired is the wide receiver Steve Largent, the last remaining player of the 1976 season.

Despite a poor start to season performance in 1990, Seahawks managed to recover and went 9-7, but competed in a strong division and missed the playoffs.

1991-1995

These years will prove to be the most tumultuous of the history of the franchise so far. 1991 will be Chuck Knox's last year as head coach of the Seahawks. After finishing with a 7-9 record, he resigned to rejoin the Los Angeles Rams. This year also saw Seattle make other bad design choices in quarterback Dan McGwire, brother of baseball star Mark McGwire. Widely expected to take over as a starting QB, he struggled on the pitch and ultimately never got that position. Seahawks detained McGwire until 1995, then traded it with the Dolphins.

Team/GM President Tom Flores took over the head coaching job for the 1992 season. Old quarterback Dave Krieg was ousted in 1992 and replaced by three different quarterbacks (first-round pick Dan McGwire, Stan Gelbaugh and Kelly Stouffer). 1992 will also prove to be the worst year of the Seahawks when they finished 2-14 and scored only 140 points in the regular season. Seattle's violations proved historically incompetent, and the only bright spot for the 1992 season was defensive tackling Cortez Kennedy who was named Defensive Player of the NFL of the Year.

In 1993, Seahawks compiled Rick Mirer from the University of Notre Dame with a second choice in design, in the hope that he would be able to become a future quarterback of the franchise. Mirer seems to be a star when he shares the NFL Rookie of the Year Award with his former teammate, Jerome Bettis in his first season. The honeymoon soon turned sour as his inconsistent play in the next three seasons led to several benchings and eventually his departure in trading to the Chicago Bears after the 1996 season.

In 1994, Seahawks moved temporarily to the nearby Husky Stadium on the University of Washington campus for a pre-season and 3 regular season matches as repairs were made to Kingdome after acoustic tiles fell inside the stadium. Upon returning to Kingdome, the team finished with 6-10 records; Tom Flores was succeeded as president by David Behring, son of owner Ken Behring, and as head coach by Miami University coach Dennis Erickson. The 1995 season was only average, with Seahawks going from 8 to 8, followed by a 7-9 campaign in 1996.

1996-1998: Paul Allen takes over

In January 1996, Seahawks owner Ken Behring announced that he was moving the franchise to Los Angeles, where the team would play at Anaheim Stadium (the same place that Rams had left for St. Louis, Missouri the year before). Behring expressed security concerns (especially the structural integrity of buildings in earthquake events) as his reasons for severing team relationships with King County. However, seismologists find Behring's claim unproven. Also, the Los Angeles area is even more earthquake-prone than Seattle. Although Behring moved the team's operations into Anaheim, his plans for the full move were halted when lawyers discovered that the Seahawks were locked into Kingdome until 2005; In addition, the NFL threatens Behring with a $ 500,000 fine every day if he does not bring the team back from Southern California. After seeing his effort to permanently relocate the franchised franchise, Behring decided to sell. A potential buyer was found at Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who reached an agreement to buy the club, but only if a new stadium would be built. After funding statewide election exclusives for stadium financing, the new stadium for Seahawks will advance and Allen buys the team.

Under new ownership, Bob Whitsitt is installed as club president and great players like Chad Brown, Warren Moon, and Ricky Watters are brought in to raise hopes in Seattle that a page has been changed. What followed was more unremarkable because the clubs in 1997 and 1998 failed to get a.500 mark with 8-8 marks in a row. This led to head coach Dennis Erickson finally fired at the end of the 1998 season. This period was not without the memorable moments, especially Vinny Testaverde's "Blond Phantom Touchdown" in regular season games, the official fault that was a major factor in NFL recovery from instant replays. The lead error resulted in a 32-31 loss to the New York Jets.

The NFL officially apologized for the official error. Instant repetitions will be restored in the NFL the following season. Referee Phil Luckett, who led the crew that made the call of touchdown (the call itself was made by the Chief Judge Earnie Frantz), was then transferred at his request to support the judge, and was also famous for other controversial issues during the Thanksgiving Games November 26th involving Pittsburgh Steelers and Detroit Lions.

1999-2008: Mike Holmgren Era

1999-2001

In 1999, Seahawks conducted the largest training contract with the appointment of Green Bay Packer head coach Mike Holmgren. Starting his success with the Green Bay Packers, Holmgren was given a double role as general manager and head coach. This appointment brings instant credibility to the franchise as under the guidance of Holmgren, Seahawks won their second division title and first playoff spot since 1988. That year included an impressive 24-7 win over former Holmgren team, Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football but despite a strong 8-2 start, Seahawks lost 5 of their last 6 to close the regular season. The skid continued into the playoffs when the Seahawks lost the last game at Kingdome 20-17 to Dan Marino and Miami Dolphins in the AFC Wild Card round; the game proved to be the only way Marino playoff career victory.

For the 2000 and 2001 seasons, the Seahawks moved to Husky Stadium while their new stadium was under construction. The Seahawks composed RB Shaun Alexander in 2000 as their future RB. A move to the Husky Stadium could not stop the Seahawks drop, as they completed a disappointing 6-10.

Holmgren then trades for Green Bay Packers to backup QB Matt Hasselbeck and make it QB early. But Hasselbeck struggled in the first half of the 2001 season to set a 5-7 record. Hasselbeck was replaced by former Super Bowl Trent Dilfer winner who steadied the ship and led the Seahawks to a 9-7 finish and lost a narrow playoff in the team's last season at AFC.

2002: Return to NFC West

Major changes occurred in 2002. When Seahawks left Husky Stadium at the end of the 2001 season they were part of AFC West, but when they moved to the Seahawks Stadium they are now part of NFC West, where they were headquartered in the inaugural season 26 years earlier. This is due to the restructuring of the 2002 division caused by the addition of expansion team, Houston Texans, and to keep the competition of traditional divisions, such as the Dallas-Washington even though the Cowboys are further west than St. Louis. That year will prove to be one of the ups and downs because Dilfer got injured on Sunday 7 and Hasselbeck became the early QB. He will end the season with a 3-match winning streak, and Shaun Alexander leads the NFC with 18 goals. But the team finished with a 7-9 record and rumors started whether Holmgren had a double role as general manager and head coach on a de facto basis.

2003

Prior to the 2003 season, Holmgren relinquished the general manager's duties so he could concentrate exclusively on team training. This move is very difficult for Holmgren because one factor for him to leave Green Bay is out of the shadow of Packer GM Ron Wolf is long. With their head coach focusing only on the coaching side, Seahawks made the playoff as a wild card with a 10-6 record and finished with an impressive 8-0 mark at home. The Seahawks will face former Holmgren team, Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field. The Seahawks came out strong but blew several chances (including important endzone drop by recipient Koren Robinson) and forced to go overtime. At the time of the coin-fold where quarterback Hasselbeck made the prediction "we want the ball, and we will score." Unfortunately for Seattle, Al Harris's interception returned to TD sealed the fate of the Seahawks and they were out of playoff again..

2004

The Seahawks entered the 2004 season with high expectations. Publications like Sports Illustrated predict that teams will represent the NFC in Super Bowl XXXIX. The Seahawks started off strongly, going 3-0 including a 34-0 shutout from San Francisco 49ers low at home. This season will change dramatically for the worse, when the Seahawks drove a 27-10 lead at the end of the fourth quarter for their division rivals, St. Louis Rams. Disadvantaged 27-10 at the end of the fourth quarter, Rams scored in ten minutes with 5:34 left. This was followed by a 41-yard TD pass to Kevin Curtis, scoring 27-24. After the Seahawks failed to convert in the critical third position, leaving 1:14 in the game clock, Rams tied the game to the next possession, sending the game to overtime. In an additional period, Rams won the match on a stunning 52-yard catchdown catch by Shaun McDonald. The Seahawks have never fully recovered from a shocking loss and then won just six of their last twelve games.

Seahawks suffered a memorable fourth-quarter setback against Cowboys on Monday Night Football. When Seattle led 39-28 at the end of the fourth quarter, Vinny Testaverde completed a touchdown pass to Keyshawn Johnson, leaving at 1:45 in the hour. Jason Witten recovered his next onside kick, and Julius Jones stood out in a 57-yard Cowboys drive to win the game. Jones finished with a game 198-yard high for the night.

The Seahawks will win their first Western NFC title with a 28-26 win over the Atlanta Falcons in the last regular season game. The team's celebrations were overshadowed by a quarrel between Holmgren and RB Shaun Alexander, who came from Holmgren's decision to bench Alexander for cautionary reasons in the middle of the team's last game of the season. Alexander will lose the title rushing in 2004 by a single page, with honor instead of going to New York Jets RB Curtis Martin. The Seahawks ended their 2004 season by losing to Rams 27-20 in the NFC Wild Card game in Seattle, the first playoff game at Qwest Field. The Seahawks lost all three games against rivals St. Louis division in the 2004 season

2005: First Conference Championship

The 2005 season saw them advance to the Super Bowl for the first time in team history. They are NFC representatives in Super Bowl XL, a game they lost to Pittsburgh Steelers. The Seahawks set a 13-3 record in the regular season, easily winning NFC West and earning home advantage at home in the NFC playoffs. There, they defeated the Washington Redskins and the Carolina Panthers to win the George Halas Trophy and advance to the Super Bowl, the first in franchise history.

Super Bowl XL

Seattle fell short in his quest for his first NFL title, losing to Pittsburgh Steelers at Super Bowl XL in Detroit, Michigan on 5 February 2006 with a score of 21-10. Although the Seahawks beat the Steelers, 396 yards to 339, and led at the time of ownership, the difference was erased after the first quarter in which Seattle could only collect field targets. Pittsburgh won on the strength of three major dramas converted for touchdown, including the longest running in the history of the Super Bowl. Seattle, on the other hand, is plagued by highly questionable punishments, dropping operands, and an interception during a long trip into the Pittsburgh area.

The controversial penalty call made during Super Bowl XL was met with criticism from both fans and members of the media, many of whom suggested that officials had wrongly canceled some key dramas created by Seattle violations. Jason Whitlock summarizes the views of several people as he writes a day after the game, "Leavy and his crew destroy Super Bowl XL Is it me who wants to hear them defend their incompetence?" In response to the criticism, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said in a statement, "The match was inaugurated correctly, including, as in most NFL matches, some tight games that resulted in disagreements about calls made by officials." The game ended the playoff season being plagued by complaints about the inauguration.

Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren sparked a debate on his return to Seattle, saying during the Seahawks rally, "We knew it would be tough going against the Pittsburgh Steelers.I did not know we had to play with the people on the striped shirts as well." Al Michaels commented during the game < i> Sunday Night Football a few months later, "The fact that Holmgren is not fined because the statement speaks volumes to me." Michaels explains he alludes to Holmgren's need to "blow up", but also suggests the admission accepted by the NFL that something is wrong in the game. Both Michaels and John Madden noted Seattle's mistakes, such as bad clock management at the end of each term.

In 2010, before a meeting with the Seattle area media about a new NFL rule change, referee Bill Leavy suddenly apologized to Seahawks for his in-game mistake.

"It's a tough thing for me I kick two calls in the fourth quarter and I influence the game and as an official you never want to do that.It left me with many sleepless nights and I thought about it constantly I'm going away to my grave wishing that I was better.I know that I did my best at that time but it was not good enough. When we made a mistake, you have to step up and have it.This is something that all officials have to deal with, but unfortunately when you have to deal with it in the Super Bowl, that's hard. "

2006

The Seahawks repeat as NFC West champions with a 9-7 record; Their season includes 34-24 pounds from the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football and a pair of two-point wins over St. Louis. Louis Rams. Seahawks organizes Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wildcard Playoffs; Trailing 20-13 Seahawks pounced on throwing Tony Romo unsuccessfully for Terry Glenn at the Dallas endzone for safety, then scored on a 37-yard Hasselbeck touchdown. The Cowboys drove down but on the next field goal effort Romo (the holder) blew a snap and stopped rushing to the endzone. One last throw of desperate Romo was beaten back and Seahawks won 21-20. The Seahawks will fall 27-24 overtime to the Chicago Bears in the NFC playoffs Division round.

2007

Seattle Seahawks finished the regular season with a 10-6 record, won their fourth consecutive title, the West NFC title, and defeated Washington Redskins 35-14 in the first round of the playoffs, to advance to the NFC Division Playoff play round against the Green Bay Packers, where they defeated 42-20.

2008

The Seattle Seahawks made little noise in free agents, though they overcame their need for change when running back, by cutting former league former injured Shaun Alexander and signing Julius Jones's second speedster from Dallas Cowboys and TJ Duckett who were stronger than the Detroit Lions. The victims of the great free agency suffered, however, when kicker Josh Brown, who scored 6 goals in the last minute of field matches in a Seahawks career for 5 years (including 4 during the 2006 season, a single-season NFL record), departed for the Division -Royal St. Louis Rams. It was also announced that this season, which would be ten coaches Holmgren as head coach, would also be his last; Defensive back coach Jim L. Mora (son of former New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts coach Jim E. Mora) will replace Holmgren at the end of the season.

Injuries struck the team early on, with members Deion Branch and Bobby Engram losing the first three games and Nate Burleson suffered a season-ending knee injury in the first game, a 34-10 loss on Buffalo Bills. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was also hounded by a back injury, which forced him off the pitch for a total of nine games, contributing to six successive defeats during the second half of the season. Although the Seahawks won two of their last three games, including a 13-3 win over the New York Jets in the last home game at Holmgren's home in Qwest Field, the team will finish third at NFC West and end up with a 4-12 record, the worst franchise ever since 1992.

2009: The only season of Jim L. Mora

The offseason 2009 begins with Jim L. Mora taking over the head job of coaching over Holmgren. The big splashes were made in the free agent market when Seahawks successfully landed talented receiver T. J. Houshmandzadeh from Cincinnati Bengals and All-Pro who ran back Edgerrin James from rivals Arizona. In the draft, Seahawks used their fourth overall pick on Aaron Curry's linebacker from Wake Forest University, and attempted to increase their offensive line in the second half by selecting the overall 49 Max Unger.

Despite an unbeaten preseason record and a 28-0 closure of the Rams in the first week, everything quickly began to unravel when Matt Hasselbeck returned absent after beating Patrick Willis in a 2 week game against the 49ers who left him with a fractured rib.. Backup Seneca Wallace went 0-2 in his place, including a miserable 25-19 loss to the Chicago Bears where the Olindo Mare kicker missed two field goal attempts. Although they were on the edge of the playoff hunt along the way until Week 13, the team season ended with four straight defeats, three of which were explosions against Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, general manager Tim Ruskell resigned at the end of the season when he could not be guaranteed an extension at the end of the year. Despite ending with a slightly better record than the previous season at 5-11, it was not enough for Mora to save his job, due to his controversial call from Mare after Chicago's defeat and questioning the toughness of Chris's injured first injured center. Spencer caused a reaction among fans, and he was fired at the end of the season to make room for new head coach Pete Carroll.

2010-present: Era Pete Carroll

2010

Pete Carroll took over as head coach of Seahawks in 2010.

Thanks to trading with the Denver Broncos the previous year, Seahawks had the first two rounds in the draft, which they used to vote for LT Russell Okung from Oklahoma State University and S Earl Thomas from the University of Texas. Their second round selection was used to compile WR Tate Gold from the University of Notre Dame. Among the many lists of team names made include signing RB Leon Washington, DE Raheem Brock, and WR Mike Williams; released WR T. J. Houshmandzadeh, RB Julius Jones and FB Owen Schmitt. The Seahawks will also trade for QB reserve Charlie Whitehurst during off season, and RB Marshawn Lynch on Sunday 5.

The team started with a promising 4-2 start, with Seattle returning two kicks for touchdown on Sunday 3 for a 27-20 win over the San Diego Chargers and the Seahawks defense causing six sacks of Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler in Sunday 5 23-20 wins. The team featured many weaknesses, however, and any Seattle losses during the regular season will come to no less than 15 points. The blast's losses include a two-week stretch against Oakland Raiders and the New York Giants where the team is 78-10. Despite coming into the final week of the season with a 6-9 record, they still qualify for a playoff spot thanks to the extreme weakness of the NFC West, and Whitehurst's backup performance in their regular season finals against St. Louis Rams was enough to clinch the NFC West championship with a 16-6 victory, making Seahawks the first division champion in NFL history to finish the season with a record losing. They remain the only record-breaking playoff team until 2014, when the Carolina Panthers won an equally weak NFC South with a 7-8-1 record.

In the Wild Card playoff game, the Seahawks hosted the Super Bowl defending champion New Orleans Saints, who earlier defeated Seahawks 34-19 in Week 11. Although they trailed 10 points on two separate occasions during the game, Hasselbeck's 4-touchdown performance (two being Brandon Stokely ) and a thrilling 67-yard touchdown run by Marshawn Lynch at the end of the game pushed the Seahawks into surprise 41-36 surprises over the Saints. The game is also worth noting for the small earthquake generated by the huge sound produced by the 12th Man (Seahawks fans) in Qwest Field. The "Beast-quake", as will be called, is a 67-yard breakdown touchdown run by Marshawn Lynch (Seattle running back who earned the nickname "Beast Mode") which proved to be a margin of victory. Reaction by the crowd at home to play resonates as seismic activity to the local seismologist, thus getting the moniker. Lynch broke 9 tackles while playing and it proved to be a winning goal. It was also Hasselbeck's last game there, where he played from 2001-2010.

The Seahawks then traveled to Chicago for a rematch with Bear in the division round, but as most experts predicted, the latter won the game with ease: thanks to two passing TDs and two TD rushed by Jay Cutler, the Bears jumped out into a 21-0 lead the first half and finally beat Seahawks 35-24. This will mark the third time in five years that the Seahawks were eliminated in the division half, and the second time by Bear.

2011

In 2011, Seahawks let Hasselbeck go and make the acquisition of free agent Tarvaris Jackson as their initial quarterback. The Seahawks opened 2-6 and then continued 5-1 which was capped by a big win in Chicago with a score of 38-14 which drew their record to 7-7. But, Seahawks lost home games against San Francisco 19-17 and then lost in Arizona in the OT. So the team finished 7-9 which, unlike the previous year, was not enough to take them into the playoffs.

2012

During the offseason, Seahawks changed their logos and uniforms. The team signed former Green Bay Packers reserve team Matt Flynn to replace the existing midfielder Tarvaris Jackson and also set up QB Russell Wilson rookie as the 75th choice in the third round of the NFL 2012 Draft. Although Flynn signed with a view to being a starter for the season 2012, Wilson preseason performances are quite impressive so coach Carroll decided to name Wilson as a starter for Sunday 1 against Arizona.

The season begins with sluggishness. The team went 2-2 in the first four games, including a controversial Monday night's 14-12 win over the Packers where a substitute replacement position caused enough media protests to convince the NFL and Referees Association to reach an agreement. Although the Seahawks will reach the 12th weekend with a fine 6-5 record, Russell Wilson's runaway signs are clearly visible in the victory of the New England Patriots in the 6th week, and two convincing victories over the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets in several weeks in a row.

The Week 13 match on the road against the Chicago Bears is a turning point this season for the Seahawks. Down from 14-10 late in the fourth quarter, Wilson set up a 97-yard touchdown drive to take the lead, and as Chicago tied the game at the end of the regulation, Seattle drove another 80 yards in overtime to seal a 23-17 win. From there, the Seahawks went berserk, winning the next three games against the Arizona Cardinals, Buffalo Bills, and San Francisco 49ers with a combined score of 150-30. They finished the season with an 11-5 record - the best since the 2005 season - and qualify for the playoffs as Wild Card. when the 494 '11 -4-1 record made Seahawks out for a NFC Western title.

Their Wild Card game is played in Washington, D.C., against the Washington Redskins. Despite falling behind at the start of the first quarter with a score of 14-0, Seahawks scored 24 unanswered points in the second and fourth quarters to win 24-14. It was their first street playoff victory since 1983. They then traveled to Atlanta to play a division playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons. Again, Seahawks find themselves down early, taking a 20-0 deficit to the dressing room at half time. A frantic fourth-quarter comeback allowed them to lead 28-27 in less than a minute to get into the game, but the Falcons were able to make quick drives and score field goals with less than 10 seconds left, and Seahawks lost by a 30- 28.

Major highlights of the season include Russell Wilson starting all matches for Seattle, becoming the first rookie quarterback since Jim Zorn in his inaugural season to do so. Wilson finished this year tying a record for passing TD by a rookie quarterback with 26, notes he shared with Peyton Manning. His three TD runs in the Fifteenth Week game against the Bills is also a franchise record. Wilson will receive an invitation for the 2013 Pro Bowl, along with RB Marshawn Lynch, OT Russell Okung, C Max Unger, FS Earl Thomas, and KR Leon Washington.

2013: Super Bowl Champions

In the offseason, Seahawks are looking to increase their rush pass through free agents, signing DL Michael Bennett from Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cliff Avril from the Detroit Lions. They also acquired WR Percy Harvin in trading with Minnesota Vikings for the draft draft of Seattle's first round in the 2013 draft. Despite not having a first-round pick, Seahawks managed to make 11 picks in the draft, including RB Christine Michael in the 2nd round, TE Luke Willson in round 5, and OT Michael Bowie in round 7. Departures include RB Leon Washington released in the offseason, and FB Michael Robinson who was cut during the training camp but will return to the team after injury to Derrick Coleman and Spencer Ware.

The Seahawks started off quickly in the regular season, winning their first four games for the first time in franchise history. Victories during this stretch included a 29-3 attack from San Francisco 49ers in Week 2, and an overtime victory over Houston Texans on Sunday 4 where CB Richard Sherman again conducted a 58-yard interception to tie the game at the end of the rule. Their first loss was a 34-28 defeat in Week 5 at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, best known for a field goal effort that was blocked by Steven Hauschka's kicker who was returned by Colts to a goal. Injuries to many offensive line players started causing difficulties in the middle of the season, with LT Russell Okung and RT Breno Giacomini both missing for a long time, and although Percy Harvin made the crowd glare with acrobatic catches and long kicks in the game against his former team in Week 11, a disturbing hip injury kept him out on the pitch for the rest of the season. Regardless of this setback, Seahawks managed to ramble from seven consecutive wins, taking over the conference in Week 13 with a 34-7 blast from New Orleans Saints where the home crowd set a new Guinness World Record for the loudest outdoor stadium with 137.6 decibel reading on a point during the game, recapture a record from Kansas City Chief who has broken the record in Week 6. Although Seahawks are the first team to clinch the playoff spot, losses to 49ers and Cardinals in weeks 14 and 16 prevented them from grabbing the division until the end of the season. Fortunately, Seahawks will defeat St. Louis Rams easily at the end of the regular season with a score of 27-9, earning their second Western West championship since Pete Carroll became head coach, and wrapped up homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoff round with # 1 seed.

The regular season record of 13-3 Seahawks marks the second time in franchise history that the team has won 13 regular season games (the previous time in 2005). Other franchise milestones include their 12-game start (11-1) start, and for the first time the team has won 11 games or more in back-to-back seasons. In addition, six Seahawks are named for the 2014 Pro Bowl as a result of their performances: QB Russell Wilson, RB Marshawn Lynch, C Max Unger, CB Richard Sherman, SS Kam Chancellor and FS Earl Thomas.

Their first playoff game was played on Jan. 11 against the New Orleans Saints, in a rematch of regular season matches on Sunday 13 as well as the Wild Card 2011 game. Again, Seahawks won behind a rushed final touchdown by Marshawn Lynch, and staved off an angry comeback attempt by the Saints to win 23-15. On January 19, they played in the NFC Championship Game against their division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. Despite groping by Russell Wilson in the first game of the struggle, Seahawks kept the game close at halftime, trailing 10-3. From there, Seahawks got a 40-yard touchdown rush from Lynch, a 35-yard touchdown reception from Jermaine Kearse, plus interceptions from 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick from SS Kam Chancellor and LB Malcolm Smith in the fourth quarter. The match closed with a dramatic defense, in which the 49ers players threatened to score the winning goal in the last minute. With 36 seconds left to play, however, Kaepernick's throw to the recipient of Michael Crabtree in the final zone was deflected by Sherman into the hands of Malcolm Smith, securing a victory for the Seahawks in a drama that has since descended on the Seahawks as "Tip".

The Seahawks won with a final score of 23-17, sending the Seahawks to Super Bowl XLVIII as NFC representatives, their second trip to the Super Bowl in franchise history.

Super Bowl XLVIII

On 2 February 2014, Seahawks played in Super Bowl XLVIII against the Denver Broncos, pitting league # 1 defense (Seattle) against No. 1 violation (Denver). The Denver offense, led by Peyton Manning's QB Hall of Fame, has broken a number of NFL record offenses including the most points scored in a single season. Leading to the Super Bowl, many where summoning the Denver Broncos as the best offense ever in the game. (Interestingly enough, Denver and Seattle were divisional rivals in AFC West before Seattle was transferred to NFC West in 2002). After kicking off to start the first half, Seahawks immediately benefited from a rescue fiasco by the Broncos during the first shoot of the game past Broncos QB head Peyton Manning, who broke into the endzone for safety, 12 seconds into the game. Seattle will add two field goals in the first quarter to an 8-0 lead. After Kam Chancellor intercepted Manning's bait on the next drive, Seahawks drove a 37-yard ball with a 1-yard touchdown run by RB Marshawn Lynch to score 15-0. On the next drive, Manning was fired again by LB Malcolm Smith, who returned a 69-yard interception for a touchdown, blowing the game wide open with a 22-0 advantage that Seahawks finally went into the locker room for the break.

The Seahawks will receive a second-half kickoff, which WR Percy Harvin took 87 yards for another touchdown (12 seconds into the second half), making Seahawks the first team to score an offensive, defensive, and special team since Los Angeles Raiders in Super Bowl XVIII. QB Russell Wilson will also record two touchdown passes, one to Doug Baldwin and one to Jermaine Kearse. Although the Broncos will break the shutout with a 14-yard catchdown catch by WR Demaryius Thomas, it's all that Denver can gather. The Seahawks won the Super Bowl XLVIII with a final score of 43-8.

The win marks the first Super Bowl Championship Seahawks in franchise history. Russell Wilson will finish with 206 passes of yard and two goals after winning the Super Bowl only in his second year at the NFL, while the Seahawks defense recorded four takeaways. Malcolm Smith was named MVP Super Bowl thanks in large part to his re-interception and a missed recovery in the second half.

Upon returning to Seattle, the Seahawks, in the right way, collect a parade to thank their fans (The 12th Man) and their city of more than 700,000 Seahawks fans.

2014: Both Responsible Super Bowl

For the first time in franchise history, Seahawks started the season as defending Super Bowl champions. Thus, they get the right to host the NFL Kickoff Game, where they defeated the Green Bay Packers 36-16. Then on Sunday 2, they went to San Diego, where Chargers beat them by a score of 30-21. It will be Seattle's worst loss since losing 13-23 to the Dallas Cowboys in Week 9 of the 2011 season. Then on Sunday 3, they returned home to face the Denver Broncos in a Super Bowl XLVIII rematch. Seattle took a 17-3 lead into the first half, but the Broncos rallied in the fourth quarter to tie the game on 20-20. The match entered the extra-time, where Seattle scored to win 26-20. After a bye on Sunday 4, they beat the Redskins in Washington 27-17 on Monday Night Football. The following week, they suffered a 30-23 loss at home to the Dallas Cowboys, only losing their second home (including the playoffs) since Russell Wilson became a quarterback. After that, they went to St. Louis to face their division rival, Rams, where they suffered their third loss of the season, 28-26, bringing their record to 3-3. However, from this point in Seattle will burn, winning all but one of the remaining ten games of their regular season. First, they beat the struggling Carolina Panthers on the road, 13-9, then they beat Oakland Raiders without a 30-24 win at home. Next, they blew the New York Giants 38-17 in their second home game in a row, before losing to Chiefs in Kansas City, 24-20. It will be their last defeat during the regular season. They won the next two games with identical scores of 19-3, first against their division teams, the Arizona Cardinals at home and then against San Francisco on the road in a prime-time match on Thanksgiving Day. After that, they went to Philadelphia and defeated Elang 24-14 before returning home to face San Francisco in their rematch of Thanksgiving Day match. The Seahawks won 17-7 to sweep the 49ers for the first time in seven years and officially eliminated them from the playoff bout. Finally, Seahawks traveled to Arizona and beat the 35-6 Cardinals on NBC Sunday Night Football before returning home to beat the Rams 20-6 at the end of the regular season to capture the West NFC title for the second consecutive season and the regular season's last 12- 4, tied with the best Packer and Cowboys in NFC. Due to the tiebreak (Seattle has the best record in the inter-conference game of all three), Seattle won the # 1 lead in the NFC playoffs for the second consecutive season. They are the first team in both conferences to repeat as the # 1 seed of their conference since the Denver Broncos 2013 did so and the first NFC team to do so since the 2004 Philadelphia Eagles. Since Seahawks is the Super Bowl defending champion, this marks the first time the Super Bowl defending champion won seed # Their 1st conference is the next season since the 1990 San Francisco 49ers.

With the # 1 seed in the playoffs, Seahawks grabbed first-round and home-field benefits throughout the playoffs. After their first-round bye, they defeated the Carolina Panthers, the second team in NFL history to qualify for the postseason (and win the playoff game) in a full season with a lost record (sub-0,500), in Divisional round 31-17. It made them their first defending champion since the 2005 Patriot to win the next season's playoff game. Then the following week, they face the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship Game. The Seahawks are fighting for a lot of games, especially since quarterback Russell Wilson throws in four interceptions. They closed in the first half 16-0 and, with five minutes to go in the rules, lagged 19-7. However, the Seattle defense managed to force Green Bay to kick the ball, giving them the ball on their own 31 yard line. Then, in seven dramas, Seattle drove 69 yards to score and cut their deficit to 19-14 with 2:09 left in the rules. Then they decided to try the onside kick, which they managed to recover. Four games later, with 1:25 remaining in the rules, Seahawks scored the second goal and managed to convert the two-point conversion to take their first advantage in the game, 22-19. After the next kickoff, Green Bay managed to quickly push downfield and kick the field goal with 14 seconds left in the rules to tie the game and force overtime. Seattle wins the coin overtime and accepts ownership first. Starting from their own 13-yard line, they closed one of the biggest comebacks in the franchise and league history by driving for six plays worth 87 yards at 3:19 am, closing with a 35-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Jermaine Kearse, which is quite interesting , was Wilson's target on all four Seattle interrogations. The final score is Seattle 28, Green Bay 22. So Seattle became the first defending champion since 2004 New England Patriots to return to the Super Bowl next season. They also became the first NFC team since 1997 Green Bay Packers to repeat as NFC Champions, the first team to go to the Super Bowl in a row as the # 1 seed in the playoffs since 1990-1991 Buffalo Bills, and the first NFC team to go to Super Bowl successively as the # 1 seed in the playoffs since 1982-1983 Washington Redskins.

Super Bowl XLIX

On Sunday, February 1, 2015, at Super Bowl XLIX, Seahawks faced Tom Brady and New England Patriots, trying to become the first team to win two consecutive Super Bowls since the Patriots themselves won the Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX respectively following the season 2003 and 2004. After scoring in the first quarter, both teams scored twice in the second quarter, and the game was tied 14-14 in the first half. In the third quarter, Seahawks scored field goals and goals to lead ten points, which they held into the fourth quarter. However, Seattle will be the first team in NFL history to snatch a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter at the Super Bowl, as New England will score two goals to lead, 28-24 with 2:02 remaining. On what would prove to be their last possession, Seattle managed to push into the New England 1-yard line and run the clock to 26 seconds. Then Seattle decided to call the game a pass rather than play, despite having the talent of running back Marshawn Lynch on their offense. Unfortunately for Seattle, Wilson's throw was intercepted by New England starter cornerback Malcolm Butler, who gave New England ownership on their own one-yard line with 20 seconds remaining. The last show by Seattle was almost immediately criticized by many after the game as one of the worst calls in the history of the Super Bowl. However, the game is not enough for Seattle, as the Patriots can not take the standard quarterback kneeldown without the risk of giving up safety, which will give Seahawks two points and possession of the ball. However, defensive midfielder Michael Bennett is marked for a foul, which moves the ball into the 6-yard line. When Brady tries to take the knee to end the game, midfielder Bruce Irvin throws a closed-handed blow in the tight final New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski, initiating a fight involving players from both teams that result in a punishment for unsportsmanlike behavior for Seattle. In addition to the penalty of unsportsmanlike behavior, Irvin was expelled from the game, making him the first player to be excluded from the Super Bowl. After the match, Irvin was fined $ 10,000. Brady takes kneeldown on the 21-yard line to spend the rest of the hour and close the fate of Seattle. The Seahawks became their tenth successive team to be ousted from their Super Bowl title, creating a record for years without the Super Bowl champion replaying.

2015: Quest for Super Bowl 4th Appearance

The 2015 season marks the 40th season of play for the Seahawks.

Prior to the 2015 draft, Seahawks made a blockbuster trade with New Orleans Saints, trading Seattle's first round for a rigorous All-Pro Saints final Jimmy Graham. For this reason, Seahawks did not have a first-round pick, but did a total of eight picks in the draft, including Frank Clark's defensive end in the second round, wide receiver and return specialist Tyler Lockett in the third round. Among the big free agent players made by the team include cornerback Cary Williams, who replaced the exit Walter Thurmond who has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Eagles.

The season begins with two consecutive road defeats. Despite taking a 31-24 lead late in the fourth quarter against the Rams, the defensive defensive allowed a touchdown by the Rams in stoppage time, and Rams won in overtime 34-31. The following week, Seahawks traveled to Green Bay to face the Packers, and lost 27-17, their first double-digit loss in 59 regular season games (67 games including postseason). However, the team will properly ship with two straight victories against the unfortunate Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions on Monday Night - whose last win ended controversially when a last-second play by the Lions accepts Calvin Johnson fumbling on the 1-yard line and linebacker KJ Wright hits. ball out the back of the end zone for safety. Although this could be subject to a penalty against the Seahawks who will give ownership to the Lions on the 1/2-yard line, no penalty is called.

Seahawks will fight most of the year. They will lose in the next two games against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Carolina Panthers, leading 17 and 9 points against each opponent. Two consecutive wins against the 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys followed, though the Cowboys match was undermined by a serious neck injury and eventually ended up in a career for Seahawks recipient Ricardo Lockette. A defeat for the division-leading Cardinals, after which was another victory against 49ers highlighted by a rookie that ran back Thomas Rawls who hit a 209-meter rush in aid for sick Marshawn Lynch, who will be sidelined for several games with a back injury.

In the 12th week, Seahawks face Pittsburgh Steelers for the third time since losing them on Super Bowl XL. The game ended in an offensive penalty shootout, and the final touch by Doug Baldwin sealed a 39-30 victory, earning them over 0,500 for the first time in 2015. This was their first win against the Steelers since SB XL (and indeed they were not first closed since that). However, the team suffered another devastating injury as Jimmy Graham suffered a broken patella at the start of the game, and will be missing for this year.

The Seahawks will regain their pace during homestretch, finishing 4-1 years - one loss being on Sunday 16 against the Rams, which swept the Seahawks in regular season for the first time since 2004. They will finish 10 - 6 year, good enough for second place in the division (Arizona won the NFC West with a 13-3 record, earned # 2 seeds) and got the # 6 seed in the NFC Playoff. Also note that the overall record of the Seahawks team rose above 0,500 for the first time in franchise history; Their 14th Sunday win against the Baltimore Ravens brought the record to 313-312-0.

The Seahawks started their postseason walk by traveling to Minneapolis to face the Vikings in the wild card round, in one of the coldest games in NFL history, as the temperature on the field at game time was -6Ã, ° F. Minnesota held Seahawks goalless until fourth quarter , but can not reach the end zone itself and must be satisfied with the entire game field goal. Seahawks scored and field goals away in the fourth quarter to lead 10-9, but Viking appeared to be ready to score a fourth field goal and win until Viking shooter Blair Walsh missed a 27-yard chip shot, letting Seahawks escape with a win. However, Seahawks luck will be exhausted in the Divisional round, against No. 1 # 1 Carolina Panthers. In one of the most dangerous first innings in the team's history, the Panthers ran the Seahawks off the pitch to lead 31-0 at halftime. The Seahawks will make the game in the second half, bringing the score all the way back to 31-24, but will fail to recover onside kicks in the last two minutes of play to seal their fate.

However, Seahawks enjoy their fifth successive year of ten or more wins, their longest streak in franchise history. The Seahawks will also send seven players to the Pro Bowl, including Russell Wilson, Michael Bennett, Earl Thomas, and Tyler Lockett.
