A board game a day â€

Dixit is a card game created by Jean-Louis Roubira, illustrated by Marie Cardouat, and published by Libellud. Using a stack of cards illustrated with a dream-like image, the player selects a card that matches the title suggested by the "storyteller", and tries to guess which card the "storyteller" picks. The game was introduced in 2008. Dixit won the Spiel des Jahres 2010 award.

The title of the game is the Latin word for "he/she/it says".

Gameplay

Each player starts the game with six random cards. The player then turns into a storyteller. The player whose turn is to become a storyteller sees the six images in his hand. From one of them, he makes a sentence or phrase that might describe it and say it aloud (without showing the card to other players).

Each of the other players then chooses from among their own six cards that best match the sentence given by the storyteller. Then, each player gives the card of their choice to the storyteller, without showing it to the other. The storyteller shuffles his chosen card with a card received from another player, and all the cards are then dealt face up. The players (except storytellers) then quietly guess which image to be storytellers, using the numbered chips that are numbered.

Original Scoring

If all players find story teller cards

  • Story teller: 0 points
  • Other players: 2 points

If no player finds a teller story card

  • Story teller: 0 points
  • Other players: 2 points (1 bonus points per vote for the card)

If at least 1 player, but not all players have found teller story cards

  • Story teller: 3 points
  • Player who found the card: 3 points (1 bonus points per vote for his card)
  • Other players: 0 points

Updated Update

If at least 1 player, but not all players have found teller story cards

  • Story teller: 3 points
  • Player who found the card: 3 points (1 bonus points per vote for his card)
  • Other players: 0 points (1 bonus points per vote for the card)

Most of the game skills come from abilities, while acting as storytellers, to offer unclear titles (so no other players can identify them) or too obvious (so any players can guess).

The game ends when a player reaches the end of the board (30 points).
